Chapter 14: Prom
I walked into my room and grabbed my prom dress from my closet. I hung it up in my bathroom then walked downstairs. I grabbed a bag of goldfish and ate a few. The front door opened and I heard the pitter patter of feet walking along the carpet. Lexie walked into the kitchen seconds later. She stared at me and then she screamed.
“What?” I yelled over her ear splitting screams.
“Prom is tonight!” she yelled then hugged me and jumped up and down. I laughed at her.
“Come on sweetie lets go get ready.” I smiled and walked up the stairs Lexie following close behind. Her dress in one hand and a large bag in the other. We walked straight into the bathroom. We decided to do our makeup first. I applied foundation, eyeliner, and a large amount of mascara so my eyelashes were big and not clumped. Then I applied a natural look with brown and tan eyeshadows. Lexie was doing a smoky eye effect. She looked beautiful with smoky eyes. It really brought out her blue eyes. She also put on cherry red lipstick. I put on a light pink lipstick. Next we did our hair.
My hair was in loose curls that I pulled to one side. Lexie straightened her hair to perfection.
We examined eachother then examined ourselves in the mirror.
“You look amazing.” We said in unison. We had about an hour until Lexie had to leave. We decided to paint our nails. I painted my nails black and Lexie painted hers white. We talked for a while before we decided to put on our dresses. I walked out of the bathroom in the dress. It was still the most beautiful dress I’ve ever seen. When Lexie came out my mouth dropped open.
“Girl, you look amazing!” I yelled. She laughed and nodded at me.
“So do you.” I smiled and walked over to the box that held my shoes. I chose a pair of nude open toed heels. Lexie had a pair of jeweled strappy heels. We touched up our makeup and hair before Lexie had to leave.
“Bye Lex, love you! Good luck with Mark! See you soon.” I said as she walked out the door. I walked back up to my room and sat down carefully not wanting to ruin the dress. There was a quiet knock at my door before it slowly opened. Tayah’s head poked in. She walked in and shut the door.
“You look stunning, Len.” She said. I stood up and pulled her into a hug.
“Thank you.” I whispered.
“For what?” she asked and held me at arms length.
“For being here. My mom’s not around that often because of her job and it’s nice to have a female opinion. You’re like the sister I never had.” I said. She smiled at me.
“Well I’m happy to be here. And I am technically your sister since I will be your sister-in-law in a few months.” She pointed out. I nodded and smiled at her. Max and Teddy walked in the door then.
“You look amazing.” Teddy said and hugged me.
“My baby sister is going to prom. That’s so sad. I remember when you used to run around in just your diaper and now you’re going on dates and running around in prom dresses.” He said and his eyes glazed over. I smiled at him.
“Don’t make me cry I don’t wanna ruin my make up.” I said as my own eyes started to tear up. Max walked swiftly over to me and pulled me into a tight hug.
“They grow up so fast.” Teddy said wiping away a fake tear.
“Shutup.” Max grumbled. He pulled out of the hug and wrapped his arm around Tayah’s waist and pulled her closer to him.
“Well come on guys. Let her have her time alone.” Tayah said and shooed my brothers out of my room. I mouthed a thank you to her as she walked out. She nodded and smiled. About 10 minutes later the doorbell rang.
