Ava's POV
The car ride home was surreal. Aura Rae was sleeping in my arms, and Matthew Miles was bundled beside me in his car seat. I kept glancing at Alex, who was driving, and then at Matt and Skylar in the back, both quiet but smiling.
Ava: "I still can't believe we're finally going home."
Alex: "You've waited long enough. And you've earned every moment of this."
Matt: "They're lucky to have you as their mommy."
Skylar: "And we're lucky to have you back, Ava."
Ava: "Thank you... all of you. I don't even know how to say it."
Alex: "You don't have to. Just let us be here with you."
Matt: "Yeah. That's what matters. You and the babies are finally home. Everything else... we'll figure out later."
Ava: smiling softly at the twins "I just... I just want them to be happy. That's all I care about."
Aura Rae stirred in my arms, tiny fingers curling around my thumb. Matthew Miles cooed softly, and my chest swelled with love I never knew I could feel.
Alex: "They're going to grow up surrounded by so much love. You're going to be an amazing mom, Ava."
Matt: "We'll all make sure of that. You're not doing this alone."
Skylar: "Family sticks together. Always."
Ava: whispering "I love you all... I really do."
The house came into view, lights glowing softly in the evening. For the first time in what felt like forever, I felt like we were stepping into the start of something real. Not perfect... not simple... but ours.
Alex: "Welcome home, Ava."
Matt: "Welcome back, Ava."
Ava: smiling through tears "It feels... right. Finally, it feels right."
The babies cooed softly, as if agreeing with her, and I realized that maybe love could be complicated and messy—and still, somehow, enough.
