Trevor's POV
The morning light was soft through the rehab center's narrow window — golden rays spilling across the small wooden table where I sat. The envelope lay in front of me, my name written in Kat's familiar handwriting. My heart thudded in my chest as I tore it open.
My hands shook. For a second, I just stared — afraid, hopeful, everything all at once. Then I began to read.
Dear Trevor,
Your letter... it broke me and healed me all at once. I read it over and over, and every word felt like a piece of the man I fell in love with coming back to life.
You said you're becoming someone worth loving again — but you always were. You just couldn't see it through the pain. I'm proud of you, Trevor. So proud. I know how hard it is to face the truth, but you're doing it, and that's everything.
I want you to know that I still believe in you. I still love you. And I'll be here when you're ready to come home — not the old home, but a new one we'll build together, one that's stronger and full of healing.
You once promised me forever. Maybe forever doesn't mean perfect... maybe it just means not giving up.
Keep fighting, Trevor. Keep healing. I'll be waiting.
— Always yours, Kat
I blinked hard, but the tears still came. The kind that burned — the kind that felt real.
Trevor: -softly, voice breaking- "She still believes in me..."
The counselor, Mason, passed by and noticed the letter trembling in my hands.
Mason: -gently- "Good news?"
Trevor: -nodding, smiling through tears- "Yeah... the best kind. She still loves me."
Mason: -sitting down across from him- "Then don't let that love go to waste. Let it make you stronger."
Trevor: -holding the letter close to his chest- "It already has."
He stood and walked to the small bulletin board above his bed — where notes of encouragement from the group hung. Carefully, he pinned Kat's letter there, right at the center.
Trevor: quietly, to himself "This is my reason now. I'm coming home, Kat... one day at a time."
He looked out the window, where the trees swayed gently in the morning breeze. For the first time in years, Trevor didn't feel trapped. He felt free.
