Kat's POV
The afternoon sunlight streamed softly through the kitchen window, catching the edges of the paper envelope in my hand. My name was written on the front in Trevor's familiar handwriting — shaky but strong.
I hadn't opened it yet. My fingers trembled as I traced the ink, my heart pounding. I wasn't sure if I was ready to hear what he had to say.
Skylar: -gently, from the counter- "You don't have to read it right now if you're not ready, sweetheart."
Kat: -shaking her head- "No... I need to. I've waited long enough."
Matt: -nodding softly- "We're right here if you need us."
Nick: -sitting on the floor with his toy truck, looking up curiously- "Sissy Kat otay?"
Kat: -smiling faintly through her nerves- "Yeah, Nick. Sissy Kat's otay."
She carefully opened the envelope and unfolded the letter, her eyes scanning the words slowly.
As she read, her breath hitched.
Dear Kat,
There's a lot I wish I could undo... but I'm learning to face it all now. Every day I wake up sober is another step toward being the man you believed I could be. I see your face every night before I sleep — your strength, your patience, your love.
You told me love has to heal. I finally understand that. I'm learning to forgive myself, to rebuild piece by piece. And when I think of you, I remember what hope feels like.
Please don't give up on me yet. I'm not the man I was — I'm becoming someone worth loving again.
— Yours, always, Trevor
Kat: -whispering, voice trembling- "He's... really trying."
Skylar: -smiling softly, placing a hand on her shoulder- "He is. And you gave him a reason to."
Matt: -nodding- "That's a powerful letter, Kat. Sounds like he means every word."
Kat: -sniffling, holding the letter to her chest- "I could feel it... like he was right here with me."
Nick: -getting up and toddling over, hugging her leg- "Sissy Kat... don't cry. Otay."
Kat: -laughing tearfully and kneeling to hug him- "Oh, Nick... you always know how to make me smile."
Skylar: -smiling warmly- "He's got a heart like his daddy."
Matt: -quietly, with a faint smile -"Yeah... he really does."
Kat: -looking up at them- "I think I'm going to write him back. I want him to know I'm proud — and that I still believe in him."
Matt: -nodding firmly- "That's the right thing to do. Hope works both ways."
Skylar: -hugging them both- "And you've got all of us right here while you wait."
Nick: -grinning, holding Kat's hand- "We family!"
Kat: -smiling through tears- "Yes, sweetheart... we really are."
As the evening sun faded, the letter lay open on the table — a symbol of love, forgiveness, and second chances. And for the first time in a long while, Kat felt peace.
