Chapter 62 Family Ties

Ava's POV (Video Call)

I sat on the couch with Aura Rae in my lap and Matthew Miles lying beside me, watching the screen as the video call connected. On the other side, I saw Kat sitting on the floor of Matt and Skylar's living room, holding her knees tightly. Nick was beside her, playing with a toy truck, and Skylar sat close, a comforting hand on Kat's back. Matt stood behind them, watching quietly but supportively.

Kat: softly, voice shaky "I miss him... I miss Trevor so much."

Skylar: gently "I know, Kat. We all do. He's working on getting better, and you'll see him soon."

Nick: -looking at her curiously- "Mommy... he coming home?"

Matt: kneeling beside Nick "Not just yet, buddy. Trevor's getting help, and that's really important. But we're all here for you."

Kat: sniffling "I just hate that he's gone... I want him here for me."

Skylar: holding Kat's hand "We know, sweetheart. But right now, we're going to help you feel safe and loved, even while he's away."

Matt: softly "And we're proud of you, Kat. It's okay to miss him... it shows how much you care. You're not alone."

Nick: quietly, pointing at the screen "Sissy Kat... it okay."

Kat: smiling faintly at him "Thanks, Nick. That makes me feel better."

Matt: smiling at the two of them "See? We're all a family. Sometimes families are far apart, but we still stick together."

Skylar: "Exactly. Nick loves you, Kat. And we all do."

Kat: hugging Nick gently "Thanks... I feel better."

Ava: softly, wiping a tear "I'm glad you're surrounded by people who love you, Kat. Even if Trevor isn't here, you've got all of us."

Kat: smiling through tears "I know... I do. I just wish he could see me now."

Matt: nodding "Soon, Kat. Very soon. And until then, we'll help you through every day."

Skylar: holding both Nick and Kat close "You're not alone, Kat. We've got you."

Nick: excitedly pointing at the screen "Mama see Kat too!"

Ava: laughing softly through tears "Yes, Nick. I see her, and I love her so much."

Kat: smiling, more relaxed now "I love you too, Mama."

The room felt warmer, even through a screen. Even though Trevor was away, the family's love bridged the distance — Nick learning to comfort Kat, Skylar holding them both, Matt supporting them all, and I watching from afar, grateful that my daughter was not alone.
