Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.
How lovely. God I hate waking up sometimes, especially with that stupid alarm clock ringing away beside my head. I would have put off sleep even further, but I had a lot of work to do around the house today, especially since Maylene would be gone until six. My sister finally got a job around here but it seems that no one wants some deadbeat, twenty two year old lounging around their store. I guess because she was older she had more "experience".
The floor was cold, but it helped to wake me up a little more. I shook my head and walked to my dresser, finding jeans and a shirt and throwing it on. I caught sight of myself in the mirror; choppy, shoulder length black hair and purple bags dripping from underneath pale blue eyes. I dragged a brush through the tangles and pulled it back into a bun, shoving a silver chopstick through the waves.
The stairs creaked underneath my feet as I walked down to the first floor. We'd finally saved up enough money to buy this place, and it was in a lot worse condition that we had expected. See, everyone in town seems to be either old and too stubborn to leave, or shady as hell and not willing to give up their secrets. But it was better than that run down apartment in Boston, that's for sure. I looked at the chip in the wall as I entered the kitchen, poking through the fridge to try and find something to eat. There were fresh apples and a note from Maylene, so I read it aloud as I snagged one from rolling off the shelf.
"Good morning Minni! Hope you like fresh apples, the people running the orchard lets us bring them home for free. Isn't that great? Anyway, I hope you have a good day, try to find some job ads if you go out into town or something, which I hope you do. You can't stay in bed forever. With much love, your wonderful sister May."
"Wonderful my butt." I chuckled, taking a bite of the apple before kicking the fridge closed. I walked out and sat on the couch, wishing we had a TV to watch and cable to enjoy. But staring out a window was good enough, I guess.
With a sigh, I started to finish the last few bites of my apple, throwing it in the trash and walking back upstairs. In a few minutes I had dug around enough boxes to find my good shoes and slipped them on, deciding Maylene was right, and I needed to get some fresh air. Maybe it would be a good idea to ask around town, see if there were any jobs available.
The car was gone, probably on the other side of town where my sister worked in the orchards. It was a bit of an inconvenience but I didn't mind it. I was starting to fill out a little too much for my liking, it was time to start working out again. And we weren't too far off from the center of town, so what the hell? Might as well.
I couldn't tell if I was doing something wrong it if I looked weird, but people sure liked to give me odd looks. The only people that didn't were the kids, who almost seemed to rule the streets here. And they all looked to be headed in the same direction as well, dragging their happily abiding parents behind them. Even the parks were vacant as I passed by, so where else would they be heading? I followed along the sidewalks, distancing myself from any large group. I didn't want to seem like a pedophile or anything like that.
Eventually, I stumbled upon the site of the excitement. All these kids were crowded around a sparkling clean building, a red ribbon strung in front of the glass double doors. A 'grand opening' banner hung above a man with a pair of scissors, he looked professional and friendly all at once. Probably the perfect man to work with kids. I stuck around long enough to watch him cut the ribbon after the speech, and hold open the doors as kids and parents flooded inside. Must have been a chuck-e-cheeses or something.
There was a cafe next door, it seemed welcoming enough. I walked through the doors to find some people more around my age lounging around inside, tapping away on laptops and enjoying fresh coffee. They had a summer menu up on the board, so I took a seat at the counter as a waitress made my order. There was a man beside me, reading over a paper. A conversation might be a nice thing to hear.
"So, what's the deal with the building next door?" I asked, watching as he glanced over.
"What? Haven't heard about old Freddy's?" He chuckled.
"I'm new in town, we've only been here for a few days."
"Here with your boyfriend?"
"No, no." I smiled. "My sister and I found a good place that we're going to fix up. I'm looking for a job around here actually, think that place next door would have one?"
He smiled, folding up the paper and handing it to me. "There's an ad in here for a night watch. But, I should probably tell you, the job isn't all that great. Pay isn't either."
"You used to work there?" I asked, taking the paper from his hands.
"At the old pizza place, yeah. They had a few incidents with the animatronics glitching out, so they shut the place down. Someone bought it though, guess they thought it would be a good investment to reopen."
I read over the ad. Freddy Fazbears Pizzeria, five nights a week, twelve through six. One hundred and twenty a week plus overtime if you worked weekends. It seemed easy enough, I was a night owl anyway. And besides, this sounds like it would be fun.
"Hey, thanks." I looked at the guy. "I never got your name."
"Mike." He smiled, and after a pause pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket and wrote a number on it before handing it to me. "I know the owner. Go ahead and call, I'll put in a good word for you. I know the new owner."
"Thank you, my name's Carmine, but my friends call me Minni."
"Well Minni, it's been nice to meet you. Let me know if you get the job."
I nodded, smiling meekly. But inside, I was ready to scream and jump and cry. My first real job in years.

Not bad, eh? Hope you're pumped to see how this turns out ^~^
