The first night

"About what?" I asked, suspicious.

"Foxy isn't shut down, but during the day you'll never see him out and wandering. But at night here, all of these guys tend to get restless. If we leave them shut off, their servos will lock up, and they will become stagnant, and shut down on their own. That's why we need you here, to make sure they don't go haywire and trash the place."

"Haywire? God, what are these things..."

"The heroes and friends of many children." He smiled, closing the curtains and leading me back to what I knew would be my office. "Please take care of them. And if you get frightened, you can shut the doors. But we do have limited power here, so you'll have to be careful. Think of it like a game, okay?"

A game of what? Hide or die? "Alright, got it."

"Good, I'll be here at six to let you out. I have to lock up on the first night for safety precautions, but later on I'll leave it unlocked so you can leave without having to wait for me."

"Alright."

"Oh, and you'll probably get a phone call later on, don't worry it's a friend of mine, he worked here during construction, so he'll leave you some tips."

I nodded, saying goodnight as he left the room. I heard the door at the front lock just as a bell tolled, signaling the start of my shift. And it seemed only moments later that the phone on my desk rang, leaving me startled. But I finally picked up, listening to the voice on the other end.

"Hello, hello? Uh, I wanted to record a message for you to help you get settled in on your first night. Um, I actually worked in that office before you. I'm finishing up my last week now, as a matter of fact. So, I know it can be a bit overwhelming, but I'm here to tell you there's nothing to worry about. Uh, you'll do fine. So, let's just focus on getting you through your first week. Okay?"

"O-kay then." I leaned back, listening to the rest of the message.

"Uh, let's see, first there's an introductory greeting from the company that I'm supposed to read. Uh, it's kind of a legal thing, you know. Um, "Welcome to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. A magical place for kids and grown-ups alike, where fantasy and fun come to life. Fazbear Entertainment is not responsible for damage to property or person. Upon discovering that damage or death has occurred, a missing person report will be filed within 90 days, or as soon property and premises have been thoroughly cleaned and bleached, and the carpets have been replaced." Blah blah blah, now that might sound bad, I know, but there's really nothing to worry about. Uh, the animatronic characters here do get a bit quirky at night, but do I blame them? No. If I were forced to sing those same stupid songs for twenty years and I never got a bath? I'd probably be a bit irritable at night too. So, remember, these characters hold a special place in the hearts of children and we need to show them a little respect, right? Okay."

I snorted, trying not to laugh. "Uh huh, got it phone dude."

"So, just be aware, the characters do tend to wander a bit. Uh, they're left in some kind of free roaming mode at night. Uh...Something about their servos locking up if they get turned off for too long. Uh, they used to be allowed to walk around during the day too. But then there was The Bite of '87. Yeah. I-It's amazing that the human body can live without the frontal lobe, you know? Uh, now concerning your safety, the only real risk to you as a night watchman here, if any, is the fact that these characters, uh, if they happen to see you after hours probably won't recognize you as a person. They'll p-most likely see you as a metal endoskeleton without its costume on. Now since that's against the rules here at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, they'll probably try to...forcefully stuff you inside a Freddy Fazbear suit. Um, now, that wouldn't be so bad if the suits themselves weren't filled with crossbeams, wires, and animatronic devices, especially around the facial area. So, you could imagine how having your head forcefully pressed inside one of those could cause a bit of discomfort...and death. Uh, the only parts of you that would likely see the light of day again would be your eyeballs and teeth when they pop out the front of the mask, heh."

It took me a few seconds to realize what he was saying. My blood ran cold, as I looked out the window to see the stage. All of the animatronics were there, staring at nothing. I started shaking.

"Y-Yeah, they don't tell you these things when you sign up. But hey, first day should be a breeze. I'll chat with you tomorrow. Uh, check those cameras, and remember to close the doors only if absolutely necessary. Gotta conserve power. Alright, good night."

"No they sure as hell don't!" I screeched, slamming the phone down. I realized they wanted me to check the cameras through a tablet that was sitting on a stand, so I immediately started flipping through it. I did have a power meter, along with a map with each of the camera labels. The one in the kitchen seemed to be out, I'd have to bring that up to Mr. Fazbear. If I made it through the night, that was. I hadn't realized how much time that call actually took, or how long I'd been flipping through the cameras. But when I checked the time it was four and I had thirty percent left.

"Shit!" I muttered, glancing at the stage again. Uh oh. "Shit, shit, shit!"

Bonnie was gone. Bonnie. Was. Gone. I flipped on the lights outside my room, sighing in relief when I saw an empty hall. I flipped through the cameras a bit to find him in the party room, wandering through the tables. I went through a process of placing the tablet down, checking the hall, and looking back at the screen. Any time he moved I went into a small aneurism, trying to find where he was hiding.

A bell rang out from somewhere, scaring me worse than the animatronic. I made it to six with ten percent power left. I sighed.

Beginners luck, I guess.
