Chapter 8: Surprise!

When we walked into the library the library looked the floor was lined with fresh grass and bushes. The shelves were covered in vines and twigs. There were leaves falling from the top of the room, there wasn't even a ceiling, there were leaves falling from above while the moon and the stars shone through the mess of vines and leaves that covered the top of the room. "This place is beautiful!" I shouted. "So you guys finally made it." Bloom said appearing from behind a book shelf. "Yeah, so you fine if they can stay and join what ever you wanted to meet me for." I asked. "Well of course, I asked them to help you get here one way or another." Bloom said. I turned around and looked at my new found friends. "Wait, you guys all new about this." I said. "SURPRISE!" Everyone shouted. "What's going on?" I asked. "Well we knew there was always a way in through a portal into the library." Jack said. "And we knew that you weren't going to believe that everything was real at first glance." Whitney added. "So as a group of friends we wanted to welcome you in the most madcap," Alexis said. "Terrifying" Lily said. "Adventurous," Rich said. "And the best way possible." Zach said. "So on behalf of the whole group, we officially welcome you Kai Crescent as a student here of the school for the freaks of nature. "This is great, amazing and overall just the best thing ever." I said. It has been along time where I felt like I finally found a permanent place to stay, a place where I needed to be. I felt like I wasn't alone anymore, a place where I can finally make friends. "Now it is time for our annual new student welcome party here in the library while the whole staff thinks we're asleep." Bloom said. The  group led me past the book shelves into a reading room filled with food, chips, candy, a TV, video games and a variety of movies. We all took a seat on the shag carpet in a circle arrangement. Whitney grabbed some candles and gave them to Alexis, Alexis touched the wicks of the candles to illuminate the room. Whitney floated to the top of the stairwell and came back with a wooden tray. "We're not doing the Ouija board right." I whispered to Jack. He shrugged his shoulders.  "I'll be right back I need to grab something from the book shelves." Bloom said. There was an awkward science. It had to be broken. "So, Lily, Rich and Zach, I never got the chance to know what type of freaks you are." I said. "I'm a siren but I am also a ship captain, but I like to be called a pirate better." Lily said. "I'm what some people call sugar rush, I'm heir to the candy throne but I don't want to be the next king I want to be a 'normal' freak." Rich said. "That explains why your so short." Zach added. "What makes you say that?" Rich said as he pushed his glasses back up. "Since your made of candy and your short, it means your fun sized." Zach said. "Look they're both blushing." Whitney whispered. "I called it." I whispered. "I guess you can say that." Rich said with a slight smirk on his face. "Five bucks that Zach makes the first move." Whitney whispered. "Deal, but Rich might surprise you." I whispered. Whitney smiled a jester like grin. "So what type of freak are you Zach." I said. "I'm a hybrid of and Alien and a human, but mostly human the only thing I have from my Alien side  that I know of so far is communication with space from my brain." Zach said. "Is that why you are always zoned out?" Jack said. "Probably." Zach returned. "Well tell E.T. I said hi." Jack said. "Enough chit chat let's get down to the real good stuff." Bloom said walking in with a giant leather covered book. "This is the reason I called you all here tonight." Bloom said placing the book onto the tray in the middle of the circle. The book was covered with leather and had a withered tree  burned onto the front cover. "Tonight we are gonna try to see who is THE SPECIAL ONE." Bloom said. Everyone looked around in confusion. "The book states right here that if one of eight shall succeed to find a spell worth flying, then he or she shall have an adventure worth finding."She explained. "We are each going to try a spell from this book, if the special one is found the book will then leak liquid gold." Bloom said. Bloom opened the book to a random page, the book was covered in symbols and drawings of things you would find in a witches hut. She stopped and pointed to a spell called "Mysterious moonlight." She then said, "Loudest day, mysterious night, may this room be filled with light." We all waited. Nothing had changed. "Well it's not me, Lily your turn." Lily walked into the center and turned a few pages. "With us today, apart from us tomorrow, may water be willed within our sorrow." Lily said. "What was that one called?" Zach said. "Death among the sea." Lily said. "Well it didn't work, Rich it's your turn." Zach said. Rich didn't hesitate he saw the one he wanted. "If one I should think thy love for me is though the love who is closest to me." Rich said. "That was an odd one." Zach said. "What's it called 'fun size'" Zach added. "Is that your nick name for me now?" Rich asked. "Well if you want it to be." Zach said. "He did that spell for Zach look at him, he's turning red." Whitney whispered in my ear. "Let's see what Zach does, but I'm telling you I'm gonna win the bet." I whispered back. "Well see." She said. "Fine you can call me "Fun size" as long as I get to call you "Marvin the Martian." Rich said. "Fair game little man, anyways it's my turn." Zach said. "If I shall see the one who seeks, then I shall seek the one who see's" Zach said. "What was that one called?" Whitney said. "Love within the mirror." Zach said. "Look who's gonna win now." Whitney said. "We shouldn't bet on this." I said. "That's fair, but I'm still gonna win." Whitney said. Alexis then went, nothing. Then Jack, then Whitney. Nothing. Then it was my turn, my heart has dropped. "What if I'm not the one." I said. "What if I am but what if no one here is the one." I said frantically. "Guess we will have to wait and see." Bloom said. I got to admit, I blushed when she said that. I walked up to the middle, took the book and closed my eyes. I turned a few pages and opened my eyes. What I saw was the true meaning of horror. It was the shadow from my nightmare. "What's wrong?" Bloom asked. "Nothing it's fine." I said. "Have you picked a spell?" Bloom asked. "Yeah it's called 'a séance of shadows." I said. The name of it was unnerving. I began to read, " Calling all spirits from here and there, to shadows of nightmares and teeth to bare, for shadows can come and strike you with fright, I call all spirits to this room tonight." I recited. The room grew silent. Too silent. We heard a small thud come from the book. Something had fallen from the sky. "What fell on the book?" Alexis said. Everyone came closer to the center and huddled around the book with me. When I realized what it was my heart stopped. "It's.... B-blood." I said. We all stared down at the book, something started to emerge from it, we all moved back. "The book, it's doing something!" I shouted. "Look!" Bloom said as she pointed to the book. "Its, ITS GOLD, ITS OOZING GOLD!" Jack yelled. "KAI YOU DID IT, YOU'RE THE ONE!" almost everyone shouted. "BUT WHAT DOES THAT MEAN!" I shouted. The room began to shake, the candles had blown out. The book began to float as it closed. "WHATS HAPPENING!" I yelled. Things were falling off shelves, cases were breaking the lights were exploding. Everyone screamed in fear. Then the lights went out everything was black. "Everyone stay as still as possible." Bloom said. Alexis was the only thing that gave the room light. Everyone was at the back of the room, the book was on the opposite side. "What just happened." I said. "Shh it can hear us." Bloom said. "The door is locked." Rich said. "We need to get out of here Rich, YOU KNOW IM AFROID OF THE DARK!" Zach screamed. "SHHHH, your not the only one." Bloom said. "Bloom, what can hear us?" I asked. "The thing you released from the book." She said. "What did I release?" I asked in fear. "You released..... The shadow." She said as her voice shook.
