Chapter 15 ~ We reach San Francisco

I woke up to bright lights from the highway. I must have fallen asleep becuse when i opened my eyes it was dark out. Leo was still driving so i sat up and rubbed my eyes. He looked at me and laughed under his breath.

"How far away are we?" He mailed and looked out the right wing mirror.
"We are a could of miles away now. So what are you going to do with the bird?" I though about it I didn't want to keep it obviously but it could be handy to have.
"I'm going to keep it. It could clem in handy at some point." I looked over the back to look at the others. Ash's head was leaning on Nico's shoulder and his head was leaning on hers and they were holding hands. I smiled and looked at Conner. I think I was finally realizing my feelings for him. I turned back to look out of the windscreen.
"So Leo tell me about you." He looked at me out of the corner of his eye.
"Well I am awesome and cool." I smiled at this.
He then told me about Hera and the quest he went in. The one thing he didn't tell me was about Calypso.
"Leo?" He looked at me " What happened to Calypso?" He face grew a pained expression. I instantly felt bad.
"I mean you don't have to tell me I was just curious." He cut me off with a wave of his hand.
"It's fine. The seven know and Ash so you might as well know." He took a deep breath.
"It's was in my bunker one day working on this automan that could cook for you and Calypso was there. I turned round to get a spanner to tighten some screws I turned round and screwed them tight. But I must have tightened them too much because when I walked out of the room to find some oil to loosen the joints it exploded. Calypso was the only one in there." He sounded like he was about to cry. "We didn't find her body." We passed a streetlight and I saw silent tears running down his cheeks. I ran my hand down his arm in a sign of comfort.
"I am truly sorry Leo. I... I didn't want to hurt you." He smiled at me.
"You didn't hurt me. You helped me." I stared at him as he focused on the road.
"You helped me by letting me talk about it." I smiled at him. Thinking about what happened.
"If you ever need a shoulder to cry on. I'm here for you." He took my hand.
"Thank you Ava. Thank you for everything." I thought I'd try to lighten up the mood.
"So did you get that robot to work. I would really love something to cook for me." He started to laugh. Then I started to laugh which of course woke the others up.
''What's so funny?" Ash asked rubbing her eyes.
"You drooling on Nico's shoulder." Leo said laughing which brought on a whole new laughing fit. Everyone else started to laugh. Then we drove past a sign saying we were in San Francisco. I looked out the window to see hundreds of people.
"How the Hades are we to find the caduceus in this place." Conner said as Nico groaned.
"My father hates people using his name so please continue using it." We all smiled as Leo pulled into a motel.
"Sunshine Valleyfield. Seems like a nice place." He pulled into a space and turned the engine off. We all got out and grabbed our bags from the trunk. Leo gave me the keys as we walked into the motel reception.
" Hi welcome to Sunshine Valleyfield motel I'm Becky How can I be of assistance." I rolled my eyes. She was wayyyy to perky at four in the morning.
"Do you have any rooms for five?" Ash asked
"Um no but we do have a two bed room and a three bed room." Ash turned to us.
"Me and Ava have the two and you boys have the three." We all nodded not in the mood to argue.
"Ok here's your keys snd I hope you have a wonderful stay at Sunshine Valleyfield." I smiled at her and followed the others out. We found it or rooms were right next to each other.
"Well night guys." Ash said giving Nico and kiss then retreating into our room.
"Night guys. Well meet you at the car at say nine?" I said shifting my bag. They nodded and Leo and Nico walked into their room so it was just me and Conner left.
"Well night Ava." He said awkwardly rubbing his neck. I walked up to him and gave him a hug. He started for a second then hugged me tight. I started to pull away when he pulled my chin up. And stared into my eyes.
"I like you Ava. I just had to tell you that I liked you. I have done ever since I first saw you." He said into my ear. I inhaled softly still looking into his eyes.
"Conner. I... I like you two. But we need to focus on the quest. This can't happen right now." I didn't know what I was saying. It was luke someone was saying it for me but out of my mouth. He pulled away looking at the ground.
"Yeah.. um you're right. I'll see you in the morning." He turned on his heel and walked into his room and slammed the door shut. I stayed outside watching cars pass the hotel. I couldn't believe I just said that.
"Why why the Hades did I just say that." I brushed my hair out of my face breathing deeply. I then shut my eyes and I felt a tear roll down my cheek. The bird must have felt my pain because it flew onto my shoulder and brushed it's head against mine. I let myself calm down a bit before going into the room with him.
I walked in and grabbed my bag stalking into the bathroom. Ash was already asleep when I walked in so I didn't have to worry about her asking questions. The bird flew off my shoulder onto the top of the dresser and tucked it's head under its wing. I turned on the shower and revelled in the warm water rolling down my face. It was them I let myself cry. For all the tings I had lost or ruined. Lucy, Willow, Adam and Conner. My mother my normal life. Why couldn't I be a normal person. I grabbed the shampoo and washed my hair. After rinsing it out and conditioning it I stopped the shower and dried my body putting on my pajamas. I used my light powers to magically dry my hair. I pulled it into a high ponytail and left the bathroom. I put my bag on the chair closest to the door and locked the door. I crawled into bed and turned off the lamp. I must have lay awake for ages because I didn't feel myself fall asleep into dreams of a normal life and one with Conner.

Ok ok I'm sorry about Calypso but it will get better soon trust me.
