Chapter 16

Cassie's POV

I open my eyes to a bright light and two heads that are shaped so familiarly. I start to focus, and it's my parents.

"Cass! You're awake!" My dad exclaims, sounding all choked up.

"How long was I out?" I ask.

"Oh. Just a few days," My mom responds then she blows her nose.

"And you're not mad at what happened?"

"I just hope those boys get a taste of their own medicine," my mom says, and my dad nods.

"I don't remember much... Can I get some food?" My parents laugh and leave me in my room alone.

I hear a knock on my door and jump. I hear a guy's voice.

"Cassie?"

"Who is it?" I had mixed feelings about it being Matt. I wanted to see him, but I was still mad.

"Evan."

"Oh. Come in." I wish it was Matt. I look up and find Evan holding flowers and a teddy bear.

"Hey," he says quietly. "How you feeling?"

"I just woke up."

"Is it okay that I'm here?"

"Yeah. Congrats you're my first visitor!" We both chuckle.

"Actually, a bunch of kids visited you while you were in the hospital." He sets down the flowers on my nightstand and hands me the teddy bear.

"Thank you so much!" I look to my right and notice a whole pile of stuffed animals. Then, I look to my left and notice a bunch of flowers on my desk along with some cards. "Like who?"

"Basically everyone including Lynn and Matt, " he answers.

"Matt?" He actually came?

"Yeah, but Julia didn't come. Don't worry," he says as he winks.

I chuckle and play with the teddy bear.

"So... what have I missed?" I ask looking down the whole time.

"Nothing really. You're what everyone is talking about," he smiles.

I laugh, "That's a first."

"Can I hang out with you for a little bit?" Evan asks.

I look up and smile, "Of course."

Maybe Evan will heal my heart.
