"The situation isn't something we expected," said Japsin, commander of the 10th Airborne Division. His division carried the nickname Death Troopers, a name he didn't choose and didn't like, even though they were one of the most decorated military units in Legrand and now, Cignus. They had been sent many times to the worst places, the hardest fronts, and the most dangerous battlefields. Their survival rate and combat results had earned them a reputation that spread across many countries, both friendly and hostile.

Right now, Japsin was inside the lead transport aircraft in a formation of dozens of planes flying in a long convoy. The back of each plane carried troops, gear, ammunition, medical supplies, and emergency rations. Outside, escorting them in a staggered pattern, were AB-3 Devastators-heavy bomber aircraft designed to drop large payloads. The Devastators were moving in and out of formation as they dived toward a city below and released their bombs.

The explosions on the ground weren't normal explosions. They didn't create fire, smoke pillars, or burning debris. Instead, each detonation released a huge shockwave that expanded like a bubble. Buildings were crushed inward, walls ripped apart, and streets cracked under the overpowering force. Entire city blocks washed out without flame. The shockwaves were so strong that they overwhelmed the explosive force of the bomb itself. The blasts hammered the landscape over and over, making the city look like it was being erased by pressure alone.

Japsin watched it through the window.

"Are we sure these people aren't neutral?" he asked, narrowing his eyes. The city was halfway destroyed already. The Devastators continued their runs, dropping the rest of their strange shockwave bombs.

One of his men responded. "Commander, their ruler is part of the coup. Intel confirmed that. And this area is far from Akraz. There's no chance the princess or the prince would be here. Before the Devastators dropped, they tried contacting the area by radio, but no one answered. If none of our signals reached anyone, then there's no way our objective is inside that city."

Japsin nodded slowly. "I see."

Below them, a few Devastators finished their last passes, released the final bombs, and then pulled away from the bombing run. One by one, they returned to Cignus airspace because they had emptied their payloads.

Inside the aircraft, another soldier approached the commander. "Sir, ETA is twelve minutes at our current speed."

"Twelve minutes," Japsin repeated. He tightened the strap of his body armor and checked his rifle, even though he knew it was already clean and loaded. It was a habit he developed after decades of operations in unstable regions. "Make sure we're ready to defend the Princess and the Prince the moment we land. No delays. No confusion."

"Yes, sir."

Outside, the sky was filled with aircrafts-transport planes, Devastators, escort fighters, and support units. They flew in a massive formation so large that anyone standing on the ground would see their shadows sweep over the land in a long, continuous wave. The sound of engines thundered across the air. To people below, it looked like a dark ceiling moving across the sky. Some described it as the sky being swallowed. Others compared it to a swarm of mythical beasts. And many who saw it for the first time felt nothing except fear.

The people on the ground looked up and saw unfamiliar machines-large, metal, and fast-flying with perfect precision. They moved in patterns no creature could copy. They flew tight, clean formations that covered wide areas, blocking sunlight and shaking the air with their engines.

To them, Cignus didn't look like a nation arriving.

It looked like something invading from another world.
