What I Say:
I think it's safe to assume everyone here knows it doesn't rain roses. So, what was this George Eliot guy going on about? Well, I think he was talking about renewable resources, such as trees. Some industries use these resources as if they will simply rain from the sky when we need more. That isn't right. When a forest is cut down, humans need to take responsibility and plant more trees in its place or we won't have beautiful things like roses in the future. It's common sense, but still profound in a way.
