Part 3:
Matthew's POVI approached the front door of the ordinary household filled with ordinary people. I admired the ordinary welcome mat and plaque outside the door that read 'The Westwood's'. And suddenly I felt ordinary with them. All until I knocked, the door was opened, and I was given an evil glare.
"What do you want? Didn't I tell you to stay away?" I knew he was home alone, Bailey confirmed that for me.
"Hi. I'm great, thanks for asking." I replied.
"I'm not interested in your well being anymore Matthew." He shot back coldly.
"Why so formal Michael? It's Matt." I told him trying to remind him of the time he liked me.
"And I'm Mr.Westwood to you." He wasn't having it and decided it best that I quite while I'm still alive.
"Yes sir." I said.
"What do you want. Bailey's not here, and even if she was I wouldn't let you see her." He crossed his arms closing the door. I wedged my foot in between it, and the doorframe, preventing him from doing so.
"Can we please talk." I pleaded. "Man to man."
"You're no man. You're abusive. You lost the title of a man the minute you bruised my baby. And you chose the wrong girl to mess with, if you hadn't noticed already, I'm a cop and I could arrest you for so many reasons right now." His voice was stern and controlling, I couldn't help but obey like a puppy at his feet. I felt as if I shrunk at every insult.
"Look Mr.Westwood, I can explain everything to you. But it's a long story and I don't think you want to be on your feet for an hour. So please, let me in. Let me talk to you." He opened the door more but never softened his intimidatingly angered expression.
"Talk. I don't know how much longer I can handle sitting here and looking at your face." Wow, he was being brutal. I wasn't used to this, a dad standing up for his daughter. All Ala had was our friends. It was finally a normal relationship. Which only made me realize that my insaneness needed to vanish. Because the normalcy of this family couldn't handle it.
"I have anger problems. And I can't control myself when I get angry. Voices in my head start yelling at me. Everything changes and I'm a new person, my friends named him Spike. He takes over, and I can't stop it. There's one person that triggers the anger in my head to an unbelievable state, a very dangerous state. My girl-...ex girlfriend. Bailey had talked to her, and when she told me about it, I got angry, too angry. I demanded to know why, and what she wanted. Bailey wouldn't tell me so, I got angry. Then she finally told me, she was warned about my anger, she was told how to handle it. It made me even more angry, I wasn't an object I didn't deserve an instruction manual." I stopped getting angry just talking about how degrading the situation felt. "The point is, I can't control the problems I have. And I know that's dangerous for your daughter. I get that. I understand that as her dad you're supposed to protect her. But I can promise you with every ounce of honesty I possess, that it's never been, nor will it be, my intention to hurt Bailey. And I'm sorry, I realize what I did was terrible." He sat there still looking incredibly angry at me.
"I appreciate you coming here Matthew, that shows a little something about you. But I can't risk my baby's safety."
"I understand that but maybe-."
"Matthew I think the only time I could be okay with you being around her is if I knew that you had your anger under control." I sighed.
"I can't just promise you I won't get angry Mr. Westwood." I almost got angry now.
"I know, maybe if you got some help, you could get it under-."
"I don't need help."
"When you get so angry that you can't control what you do, that's not normal, that's madness. That's insanity. You need help." I stood aggressively.
"Whatever, you don't know me. You don't know what I'm dealing with." I yelled and went to the door.
"You're not coming near my daughter, so don't think about showing up here again." He yelled back.
"Fuck you." I ended the conversation by slamming the door. Bailey appeared walking out of her car.
"Matt, babe what are you doing here?" She asked coming over to me. I knew Bailey's dad was watching so I let my anger take over and I kissed Bailey aggressively, not letting her escape my grasp. She finally pushed me away.
"I'll see you tonight baby." I whispered in her ear and walked away. Her father cursed at me and pulled Bailey in the house. I drove back home and slumped on the couch.
"Hey Matt?" Sawyer looked nervous as he approached me, I sat up and washed my anger away.
"What's up?" I asked.
"Can you take me to see my parents?" He asked quietly. My eyes widened in shock.
"You're ready to go home?"
"I don't want to stay there, I just want them to know I'm okay."
"Sawyer, you need to go home."
"Is this because you want your bed back, you can have it. Just please don't make me go back there." What was I supposed to do?
"It's not about that, it's just, you need to be with family. You may not understand what they do and why they do it. But they love you Sawyer."
"I'm not ready, Matt please. Don't leave me there. I'll just run away again." I sighed and knew he was telling the truth. On the streets is where Fulton could get him.
"Fine. Let's go." I got up and grabbed a set of keys to Carter's car. We drove in silence, the only voice coming from Sawyers as he told me directions. Finally we pulled into a huge home sitting on a hill, over looking Los Angeles. How could any kid not want this? "Want me to wait here?" I asked. He shook his head no so I got out with him. As we reached the front door Sawyer didn't move, so I knocked on the door for him. A tall slender man dressed in a suit answered the door.
"Mr. Quinn? Your back." He smiled gleefully, I assumed it was the butler. "I'll go retrieve your parents." Sawyer and I walked into the extraordinary house. Maybe I could live in a house like this when I'm older. A lady came running through the house. She cried when she saw Sawyer and immediately hugged him.
"Hi Shelby." He said.
"Where on earth have you been young man. And who is this shaggy haired boy?" Yes my hair had gotten a lot longer, but I still take care of it, I wouldn't call it shaggy.
"Dad stop." Sawyer grew defensive.
"Sawyer Quinn you had us worried to death, I was about to call the police."
"I'm fine."
"You still haven't answered any of my questions." His dad said sternly.
"This is Matthew, he's been helping me."
"Helping you what? Turn into him, a careless boy who doesn't have anything going for him at all? You've had everything handed to you. You're so ungrateful." His dad's words did hurt me a little. Did I really look like a careless bum?
"As a matter of fact father, he is famous and going to be a successful actor in the next couple of years. And at the rate he's going, it wouldn't surprise me if he was able to buy a house ten times bigger than this in ten years." Sawyer defended me and I felt bad.
"Sir, my name is Matthew Espinosa." I reached my hand out, he ignored it.
"Did I hear Matthew Espinosa?!" A girl ran down the stairs and I was scared she would fall. She looked about twelve. "Oh my god! Mathew Espinosa is in my living room!" She squealed, I almost wanted to cover my ears. "I love you so much! I'm your biggest fan!"
"Thank you, I love you too." I smiled. She ran over and hugged me.
"My name is Emma." She gleamed still not letting me go.
"It's nice to meet you Emma." I smiled.
"See dad, even your own daughter is a fan of him." Sawyer pointed out.
"Mr. Qui-." I started.
"It's Doctor." He interrupted coldly.
"Sorry, Dr. Quinn. Sawyer has been staying with me and my friends. I promise he's very safe there, and their all nice people."
"I know who your talking about oh my god. I know all those people." Emma squealed. I smiled at her. "This is so cool my brother has been living with the greatest people ever." She jumped up and down.
"I suppose that means you've probably turned into an alcoholic or a drug addict, sense you're living with a bunch dumb teenaged boys."
"No sir, we would never do that kind of stuff. Especially if Sawyer or someone young was around."
"I'm not talking to you am I?" He snapped at me. I didn't blame Sawyer for not wanting to be here.
"Harold, please be nice. He's been feeding and providing shelter for our son."
"Shut up Shelby! He's not your son!" There was a lot more to the Quinn family than Sawyer had told me. Shelby backed away quieting again.
"Daddy stop being such a bully. Matt's a sweetie." I gave Emma a smile.
"Emma go to your room."
"No I want to be here, with Matthew."
"No! Now get upstairs before I ship you off!" She glared at him and gave me one last hug before going upstairs.
"Sawyer dear, could you please just explain why you ran away, and what happened." We all sat.
"I didn't want to be here anymore, so I ran away. I found this guy, he is the leader of a gang. I joined the gang, stupidly. But once I was sent to interrogate Matt, he knew what was happening, he helped me escape the gang and let me live with him."
"You're such an idiot Sawyer." His dad exclaimed. "Whatever, you're back now. Get out of my house." He pointed to me.
"I'm not staying." Sawyer told him.
"Yes you are."
"No I'm not. You're an asshole. I should take Emma with me. Shelby should divorce you. Just like mom did because your a dick."
"You cannot speak to me that way. I'm your dad."
"You're not a dad. Matthews been more of a dad these past couple of weeks than you have in my whole life." I looked at him in shock, but he didn't notice. I've been acting like a dad?
"Didn't I tell you to get out of my house?" His dad yelled at me.
"I'm sorry sir." I stood. I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to leave Sawyer here. But I didn't think he was done confronting his father. Sawyer stood as well.
"Let's go." He mumbled.
"You're not going anywhere."
"Yeah, I am." His dad stood up and held Sawyer back. I didn't move. I couldn't just leave him. Sawyer struggled to break free but couldn't. A big man came around the corner and pushed me out. I struggled as well trying to get back to Sawyer. I didn't want to leave him here. The big man pushed me and pushed me. I saw Sawyer kicking and almost crying, trying to break free. But the screams were blocked out when the door was closed in my face. I felt so defeated. I banged on the door and tried everything to get it open. Finally I slouched down out of breath. I finally gave up. He was home, that's what I wanted right? Everything would go back to normal. But I felt like I was somehow betraying him by leaving. What else could I do? I drove back to the apartment. I had lost Ala, then Bailey, and now Sawyer. How could this happen? how could I single handedly loose everyone so quickly. I knew what I needed to do, I called Ala. She could come up with something.
"Hey." She answered, her beautiful voice echoing through the phone.
"Hi. I need comforting." I spoke.
"What's wrong."
"They took Sawyer."
"Fulton?" Her voice grew with worry and I realized my word choice was bad.
"No his family. He wanted to go tell them he was okay, and they took him. You should've seen him, he was screaming trying to get away from them as the body guard pushed me out. It was awful. His dad treats them all like shit. I don't want him there." I told her sadly.
"Do you want to come over?" She asked sympathetically.
"Yes please." I muttered.I met her cousin and his girlfriend, along with their child. They left shortly after I got there to go get settled in their new home. Ala and I were sitting doing absolutely nothing when my phone buzzed.
~Conversation~
Sawyer Quinn- can you come get me, please.
Matthew- their letting you go?
Sawyer Quinn- no but their all asleep, I can sneak out.
Matthew- are you sure?
Sawyer Quinn- positive, I can't be with these people anymore.
Matthew- I'm on my way, why don't you pack some stuff to take with you.
~End Of Conversation~
"Ala." She jumped at the sudden noise.
"What?"
"Sawyers gonna escape. Wanna come help."
"Duh."
We drove there and as we hit the start of their incredibly long driveway I turned off the headlights hoping that would lesson the attraction of us. I texted Sawyer that we were here. He said he had to go out his window. I wasn't sure how he would do that but as I got out of the car and went to the side of the house I saw that there was one of those flower things that he could climb down from. He threw his suitcase down I picked it up and loaded it in the trunk as he climbed down. He ran the car and hoped in I sped off quickly not wanting to get caught. We sped off to Ala's.
After talking a little bit and trying to figure out what to do with Sawyer. And how his dad would react when he realized his son had ran away, again. It got late so we decided to watch a movie. Halfway through the movie Sawyer fell asleep. Ala covered him with a blanket showing her maternal colors. As I was dozing off I remember promising Bailey I would see her tonight. I was angry. She didn't take me seriously did she? But as I thought about what had happened I became mad again, at Bailey's dad. I wanted to pay him back.
"Ala?"
"Yeah?" She asked from the kitchen while she put away our mess.
"Is it cool if I leave Sawyer here for like an hour, I've got to go talk to Bailey." She walked over after wiping her hands.
"Yeah, I guess. But be careful." She warned, giving me a hug.
"Thank you so much, your awesome, I promise I'll come get him later. Love you." I yelled kissing her cheek just like the rest of the guys always did. I ran to the door.
"Love you, too?" She muttered in shock. I drove all the way to Bailey's and when I got there I rounded the house all the way to her window. I threw a couple rocks up there to catch her attention. She finally opened her window with an annoyed look.
"What the hell are you trying to get yourself killed, my dads going to wake up." She whisper yelled.
"No he won't."
"What do you want?"
"Let me in."
"Why?"
"I wanna get revenge on your dad."
"What does that even mean?"
"Just let me in." I heard her grunt and when I saw her next she was slowly opening the back door. I rushed over and slipped in. We silently crept to her bedroom. Finally. She sat on her bed and I sat beside her.
"So what is revenge on my dad?"
"This." I pushed her back on the bed and connected our lips.
