emily's pov

i wake up and feel my arms around alison. my vision is still blurry and i feel so groggy, but i try to focus on alison's bouncy blonde curls touching my neck.  she looks so peaceful.  i stay there for a few moments, my phone beeps and its  texts from my mom.

Are you with the girls?

I need you to let me know what time you'll be home,

I'm not  waiting any longer, be home before practice.

i decide to get up. i slowly unwrap my arms from her, and slip out of bed. i head to the door and open it and go downstairs to finally leave.

the next day at school

"hey, guys!" i say sitting next to aria, hanna, mona, and spencer.

"hey!" they all said in unison.

"where the hell were you last night?" spencer asks.

"yeah, when we woke up, you and ali weren't there." aria adds.

"yeah, i thought you got kidnapped or something," hanna jokes as they all chuckle.

i laugh nervously as i try to think of an excuse

"but seriously, where were you?" hanna asks.

"oh, yeah, yeah, um, alison just wanted to get uh uh, burgers, and some soda."

"burgers and soda?" Hanna asks, suspiciously

"well, yeah! she was, thirsty, a-and...hungry." i reply

"then why didn't you just come back to the barn?" spencer questions

"because i parked at alison's house, and um, she was really tired, so she wanted me and her to sleep at her house, because she didn't want to go aaalll the way back to the barn," i say satisfied with my answer.

"emily, my barn is in her backyard. It's not that far away," she says eating a carrot.

"yeah bu-"

The bell interrupts me. thank god.

i get up and take my backpack and leave. "bye, guys," i say rushing to my locker.

i enter my code and took out some textbooks. as, i do that, i see a boy walk up to the empty locker next to me. he was tall, had black hair and a square jaw. i've never seen him before and i figured he may be new.

he looked at a piece of paper and entered a code. then, he tried to open his locker, but failed to do so.

"dammit," he muttered. he kept on trying to open it, but it wouldn't open. then i saw what he was doing wrong.

"do you need some help?" i smile.

he nods. i walk up to his locker and open it for him.

"your supposed to press the handle, and then you can open it," i say.

"thanks."  his voice was deep and it fit his whole image.

"no problem." i answer. 'so, are you new?"

he looks at me. "y-yeah. i came here from California."

"cool, so what's your name?" i ask again, trying to be friendly.

"ben. coogan."

"i'm emily fields." i say sticking out my hand.

"emily, that's a nice name," he says shaking my hand. i raise my eyebrow at his comment, 'emily' was such a simple.

i look at schedule. he has chem for 1st period, i do too.

"you have chem?"

"yeah, i better get going. it's my first period."

"it's mine too, i'll walk with you." i say as he blushes.

"i'm really good at it too." he says. "back in my old school, i used to be the best at chemistry," he said looking back at me, shooting a smirk.

"cool.  maybe someday you can help me study, i suck at it."

"s-sure," he stutters, running his hands through his ruffled, dark hair.

"they can also be used to describe how moons orbit around a planet. but, they do not just apply to our solar system --- they can be used to describe the orbits of any exoplanet around any star," mr. earton says.

"hey, Emily," ben whispers.

"yeah?"

"do you have a eleven protons? 'cause your sodium fine."

i didn't entirely get what that meant, but i'm sure her just gave me a chemistry pickup line.

i just giggle awkwardly, as he grins.

after, first period ben and i continue to talk into next passing period. he tells me about his old school. as we talk i see ali walk up to me.

"ben, i'll talk to you later," i tell him.

"okay, i'll see you later. it was really nice meeting you, emily" he says and rubs my back before leaving.

"who was he?" alison asks, a hint of sass in her voice.

"ben. he's a new kid," i tell her.

"seems like a loser,"  Alison snaps, as I roll my eyes.  can she not judge people for like a second?

"so, what did you want?"

"i just wanted to see you before we switch classes. school fucking sucks," she says, with her hand on my arm.

"well, i gotta go. don't want to miss class," i say, annoyed about her rude tone. sometimes this girl was a headache to be around
