It was an hour or two before the doors opened, but today was special because the wedding season was around the corner.
Which apparently has a season?

Glenn had gathered some of us to help decorate the display of things, so him and Mateo were on flowers. I don't know about what the others were doing, but Jonah and I got tasked with putting everything onto the tables.

Working on the last table, being the bride and groom cake toppers, he'd hand me a couple at a time and I'd place them around making it look nice. I couldn't trust his idea of nice when it came to decorating.

"How was your first color war? I've been meaning to ask." Handing me another pair, he looked shocked. "You knew about the color war?" "Mhm, called off because of it. Not a big fan of how crazy Glenn gets over it."
Jonah had gotten on a knee to open one of the other small boxes of toppers. "Uh well that wasn't the only prize, the gold team, my team, won a hundred bucks as well."
He stood back up to give me the new ones, but missed my expression of guilt. "Even met Amy's husband.. that went well.." "Wait a minute, you're telling me the one time I call off to avoid color wars Glenn gives everyone more than pizza?"
Taking the stupid topper and just setting it down anywhere on the table, Jonah seemed to notice my disbelief and rearranged where it went. "Shit man, I could've used that for rent or something."

Giving me a confused look as he handed me the empty box, "You don't live in a dorm or uh.. with your parents still?" Breaking down the box in a grumpy manor, "No? I'm 24 dude, I moved out as soon as I could. Plus I didn't want to deal with a roommate or anything.  Don't live far from the school or here actually."
"Oh! You just seemed a lot younger.. in a good way of course! Are you uh, having financial problems..?"
He looked worried that he might or offended me and said the wrong thing. "Oh no, bus fairs just keep going up. I'll have to see if Garrett can drive me sometime."

It looked like he had something else he wanted to say but before he could everyone gathered in front of the display, ignoring the horde of frantic brides waiting outside behind us, to get a good look at our hard work.
Garrett was the first to say anything, "I'm just gonna say what we're all thinking. This is pretty as hell!" Everyone else nodded in agreement as Dina checked her watch and went to open the doors.

"Yea I'm just gonna.. walk outta of the way." Moving of the side, not in the path of the women that started rushing by the others like wild animals. "I am not tryna get trampled."
Within minutes the display was pretty much gone and falling apart. Everyone's accomplished expressions were quickly washed away.
"Well that was good use of the last five hours."

Not long after the wedding rush, Garrett and Jonah stood around the display. Watching as women fought over the decor.
Commenting how crazy it was for them to fight over something so simple as a net with glitter on it.

I got stuck on restocking the display with whatever we had left, so I was emptying a box of dainty candlesticks. Waving one around before butting in on the conversation. "You know most women dream of getting married. They've probably been planning their perfect wedding since they were little girls."
They watched as I set the candlesticks down in specific spots, before handing Garrett a box of candles for him to open and hand to me.

"It's a big moment ya know? Getting to feel all nice and pretty, marry the person they love. They want everything to be perfect, wouldn't y'all?"
Jonah thought about it for a moment, but Garrett had a response ready. Handing me a couple candles after the other and shrugging "I don't know, haven't thought much about it." I rolled my eyes as Jonah nodded in agreement, almost forgetting who I was talking to.

"You know historically the best man was chosen on strength, I-in case the bride tried to run away. But no.. I uh haven't really thought about it either.."
Sighing, Garrett handed me the now broken down box before I walked off.
"Well I just hope y'all have strong groomens"
