Ninjago Head Canons

UPDATE: Identities/Appearances

Okay, so I'm actually hyped right now because this is probably the closest we're going to get to what the Ninja look like when they're not yellow. 

So, recap. 

I made an update YEARS ago back in like 2017????? I wanna say about the ethnicities of the ninja and how I saw them and pictured them based on the show and lots of fanart I've seen, and this is what I had said....

Cole:
Korean/Japanese

Kai:
Vietnamese

Jay:
British/Irish

Zane:
Russian/American

I had given details and my reasoning behind it in the actual update, which is titled "Identities" within this collection, if you want to check it out. If not, this is the rundown of my headcanon. I also included others in the update, but I only have the main four for this update.

So, here is where things get exciting. Fortnite, of all places, is where we get our first view of the ninja in their non-lego form, and I have to say I am so hyped. 

So, first off, I think Cole is perfect! And I know I am biased cause Cole has been my favorite since forever, but this is how I imagined him. He's darker as I imagined him, he's buffer than the rest, which is to be expected cause he has his super strength, and in LEGO form, he always had more muscle definition. His outfit has pieces of orange, and his hair matches his newer seasons haristyle which looks great on him, and honestly. Before I had said that, I saw him as Korean/Japanese, and when I said that, I definitely saw him as being a darker asian, as people would see from some of my favorite art of Cole, he's always dark-toned. Looking at the Fortnight version, I would say he's more African in ethnicity than Asian, but honestly, he looks like Cole, and I think he looks amazing, even if it doesn't quite match my headcanon on point. 

Next is Zane, and I would say I think my headcanon matches Zane. I said he was Russian/American, and I think that is exactly the inspiration that went into designing Zane's Fortnite look. He has that classic 90's styled Russian badguy look to him, but more Zane. I love that his lifesource/heart is visible for the design cause it just kinda pulls it all together, I feel like. His hair is classic Zane, so nothing is out of place for that. I wish we got a skin of him in his non-Nindroid form, but I will take what we got.

Kai, I think, also looks good. He has his scar on his eyebrow, which I love cause it's so prominent even in his LEGO minifigure form, so I'm really glad they added it for his Fortnite skin. His hair honestly could be a bit more poofy and spiky for me cause like, my dude is known for his stylish hair, and I feel like his Fortnite form is a lil tame for Kai. I had said I saw him as Vietnamese; however, I would strongly say that Kai's form here is definitely Chinese, which is something that I bounced back and forth on when I was doing my headcanon, so I can totally see it. I think he looks great, but I also think he's the only one who looks Asian, which is what inspired all my headcanons on their ethnicities, because Ninjago is clearly Asian inspired, so I felt most of the ninja would be Asian, varying based on each one. But I think Guy looks good, his face is a lil off, but I can't quite place it, but overall I think he looks great. 

Last but not least, Jay. So, it's hard to see in this photo, but Jay does have his freckles, which is important, and I'm glad they added them, but I do wish they were easier to see cause like in this photo, you cannot tell that they are there. I honestly imagined Jay a lot paler than the others, and I did headcanon that he was British/Irish with more European-inspired heritage, but I don't think that holds up at all with this Fortnite form. I like that his hair is all fluffy and his face honestly looks super sweet, which Jay is, so that's a big plus for me. While I would say Jay is not how I imagined him to look, I honestly think he looks great, and I'm very excited for this idea of him. 

I wish they had Lloyd, too cause having all 5, I think, makes the most sense, but I will be happy with the ones we got. I would personally, if I ranked them, would rank them in the order I placed them, that being: Cole, Zane, Kai, and Jay. But I would looove to hear what you all think, I even placed a lil poll at the bottom if you wanna vote on whose your favorite look/looks the most like how you imagined. But I would also love to hear from you in the comments on your likes and critiques, as well as your own ranking. 

I don't even play Fortnite, but I am so tempted to play just to have the ninja skins cause these four mean so much to me that like I feel like I NEED to have them. I dunno, we'll see. I am very tempted. 

But yeah, this is the lil update, my headcanons don't really hold up to the Fortnite forms of the ninja, but I really don't mind, I'm just excited that we actually have like a form of canon appearances for the ninja that aren't just LEGO. But, also, it's Fortnite, so if people really don't like how they look, you can simply ignore it, which is kinda nice too.
