Devin's POV
I woke up to Blaze's warm nose on my forehead. Blaze stood on my chest with his ears pointed straight up. He lightly headbutted my chin.
"Ok ok I'm getting up." Blaze hopped off my chest and walked outside the tent. I wiped my face and yawned. Last night was great. She was my first kiss.
Emma and I were best friends, no wonder her hugs were so familiar. I frowned at the thought of when I left her.
Where did I go? Why did I leave? Why can't I remember anything? I checked my watch 12:32pm. I really needed those extra hours of sleep.
Air District huh. I don't even want to leave the Fire District. It's so beautiful and peaceful. I just wish we could stay longer. I crawled out of the tent to see Devonte and Blaze playing tug of war with a stick.
"Arrrggh." Devonte grunts and tugs on the stick. "Wow you're pretty strong for a baby wolf. Arrrrhh!!" Blaze growls and pulls in the opposite direction.
Devonte planted his feet and tugged once more, causing him to lose his grip. Blaze sat down and spit out the stick.
"What?! No, rematch." He picks up the stick again and they began tugging. I shake my head, he's such an idiot.
I darted my eyes in every direction of the alley. Something was off...Rachel's gone.
"Hey where's Rachel?"
"Arrrrggh. She-Aarrgh. Left."
"Do you know where?"
"She said something about training and other elemental junk...aarrgh."
Training? Well If she's going to do that....
"Will you be ok if I leave you here alone?" Devonte drew his eyebrows together. "And where are you going."
I shoved my hands into my pockets and turned my back to him. "Visit a friend. Come on boy." Blaze ran up beside me and we made our way to Mya's house.
Devonte's POV
Why does everyone have somewhere to go but me? I threw the stick to the other end of the alley in frustration.
Devin has gotten way stronger than me.... Even though we both are weilders, he knows more than me.
I paced back and forth, thoughts of losing to my brother ran through my head.
"You don't think."
I froze in my steps, that's not a voice I recognized. "Water...is graceful."
I slowly turned around, to see....Micah Scott, the Emperor of Water. I thought he was missing. Scott is clearly right in front of me.
Micah stood there with his arms crossed. He tiltled his head downward and had his eyes closed.
Micah's blue and white trenchcoat flowed backwards. I didn't feel any wind, maybe that's just an effect or something.
His blonde hair was messed up, T-shirt was dirty, jeans were tattered and his boots were a mess.
"Hello?"
Micah smirked and raised his head up. The emp's face was covered in scars.
"You called me here."
"I-I did? But how?"
"Wielders have a way of talking to their Emps. So what's your name?"
"Devonte. Devonte F-Francis."
Micah's eyes widened when I said my last name."Francis?! Are you by any chance related to John Francis?"
A huge smile appeared on my face and I nodded. "Yup, that's my dad."
"John helped me transition into the Emp I am now. I would've never guessed I would be helping his son."
This is so cool, I'm talking to the Emperor of Water. He's much older than his appearance portrait him to be.
I wonder have Devin ever talked to that old dude Roy. "What do you need advice with?"
"Ugh, it's hard to explain." I stared at the palm of my hands. "My brother embraced his elemental powers so easily. I'm not saying I didn't but. He's just become really strong..."
"I see, your brother is also a weilder."
I nodded my head and looked down.
"Give me an explanation of your brother."
"Devin is the serious, somewhat calm type. He's confident and brave, good leadership(even though I didn't want to admit it) knows how to control himself."
"Mm yes. He must be a fire elementist from what you described.
I nodded my head. How can you guess someone's element just by their qualities. Do I have good qualities?
"I know I'm a good elementist, but...." I really don't know where I'm going with this. Why am I questioning my abilities?
I know what I can do. I'm so confused. I ball my hand into a fist.
"I feel like I'm struggling... After a near death experience, I lost my confidence."
"Near death experience, how did you manage to survive?"
"I don't even know. My vortex was already fading and somehow with the little energy I had left, it just went on its own."
The Emp scratched his chin. "You force your energy out, instead of letting it flow."
"Know that I realize....I guess you're right."
"Elementists release their energy from different places. You just have to find out what suits you best."
Micah slowly disappeared. I thought about what he said. I have to let my energy flow.
In that fight with Drew, I felt like my energy was being strained. I wasn't thinking in the fight, I just fought.
Once I was cornered, I was forced to think about my next attack. That's when it just flowed.
I have to go look for an open lot or field. I have training to do....
