There was no way out of this without getting to Rachel. I won't leave her behind and let her die. "Hey!" I called out to me...Cade. He looked at me with a sly grin, and his wielder mode dwindled slowly. I balled my fist up and choked on what I was about to say next.

I swallowed hard, my saliva feeling like razors. "You have my attention, boy, I suggest you speak now," he croaked. Cade knew it was over; he knew he had won. "I-I'll join you," I said through clenched teeth. "You're kidding, right bro? Right?!" I avoided looking at Devonte. He heard me, I've made my decision.
Cade was back to his normal state. There wasn't a scratch on his face, but his torso had a few holes here and there. "Is this your final decision?" Pain sailed through my arm. "Yes..."

Devonte looked at me in disbelief, before stepping in front of me. I looked into his anger-filled eyes. "What are you doing?" He asked, lowering his voice, but loud enough for me to know he was mad. "What else can we do? I've broken my wrist, and I can't tap into my wielder mode. You have a huge gash, and you're constantly losing blood," I snapped. " Devonte looked down and removed his hand from the wound. It was terrible, hard to look at without thinking the worst. His hand was completely covered in blood.

"Are you sure you want to do this? How can you be sure he won't kill you?" I know he won't kill me. He needed me. If he wanted to kill me, Cade probably would've done it by now. "Trust me; he won't... I am his son, after all. This is the only way we all can make it out of here alive, but you two are leaving."

Devonte shook his head. "If you're staying....then I'm staying too," he replied. I put my hand on his shoulder, "you have to go back to m..." I couldn't finish, it pained me just thinking about them. "One of us has to go back."

He sighed, "why do you always have to be the hero?" I shrugged my shoulders. "You're the hero today man," I replied, trying to sound happy and worry-free. Devonte's face lit up with delight, but it disappeared as fast as it had come. "I'll free you, and I will come back. I-I swear, I-I'll-"

"I know you will..."

"Devin? You were saying?" I moved Devonte aside and eyed my... birth father. "I will join you.... On two conditions."

"Two? Well, that's unusual, no matter. What are these two conditions?" I looked over at the solid dome, hoping Rachel was still alive. Emma wouldn't kill her, I'm sure of it. "First, you will let Rachel and my brother go." He pressed his lips together and nodded. "Lastly, you are to let them live without you breathing on their necks. No hunting them down, invading personal thoughts, or anything. Do you hear me!"

"Fine. Done."

I was completely shocked. Was it that easy? I have no clue, but he seemed to agree to terms. "Empress?!" He called out to Emma's mother, who stood halfway across the room watching over the dome. "This was a success. My son, Devin, has agreed to join me. Unfortunately, we have to let the other two leave."

Unfortunately? Whatever...

The Empress raised her hands over her head and brought them down. The dome cracked and crumbled in an instant. Rachel was just now getting up.

Emma held a boulder over her head, breathing heavily. Both of them had nicks, scrapes, cuts, and tattered clothing. It looked like Emma still had the upper hand.

"Emma, we're done here," her mother said, obviously disappointed in her. Why? Maybe because she didn't fight well?

Both of them looked around the throne room. Rachel stumbled to her feet and eyed the crater in the marble floor. She gave a weak smile breathing loudly. "What happened?" Rachel asked, making her way next to us.

"You're going home," Cade said. Before she could speak, he interrupted her. "But Devin is staying with us." I glanced over at Emma to see her smile slightly but quickly look away.

"W-what? Wh-" She was cut off again but this time by Devonte.

"It's already done. There nothing you can do." Rachel's face still held confusion and sadness.

"Come my son, there's lots to discuss" Cade said with a helping and friendly hand held out.

I patted my brother on the shoulder and stared into Rachel's eyes for a split second as I walked over to Cade. Rachel seemed to be holding back tears "Ready?" Devonte asked reaching into his pocket and pulling out the orb.
She looked at me one last time and nodded her head, pulling out her orb as well.

Rachel threw down the orb and vanished into a puff of blue smoke. Devonte hesitated, I saw his grip tighten around the little ball. He threw it down with uneccessary force and he was gone....just like that.

I fetched mine out of my pocket and gently placed it on the floor, the ball shattered like glass under my shoe.

Devonte's POV

The teleportation orb felt as if I walked through one of the portals at the CTS. This time I was going home.....home....without Devin. There were no cheesy introductions, no pictures of an Emperor or Empress....just darkness.

I felt the solid earth under my feet, I had arrived. I was now standing in our back yard, on a typical humid Houston night. I walked up to the back door and paused. I looked back at the shed, expecting to see my brother....

Part of me really wanted him to appear in the grass, telling me an amazing story on how he escaped and beat Cade. The other part.....wanted him to stay, so I can be the hero. I twisted the door and walked inside, everything felt refreshing, everything felt good.....it felt like....like....

Home....
