~Saturday~

I woke up to the sun beating down on me through the window. I blinked the sleepiness from my eyes and looked around my room.

I checked the alarm clock on my nightstand, 10:26 am. I yawned and stretched. I must have been really tired, I never sleep until 10 am. Maybe it's because I used a lot of energy using my element. The door opens up slowly and Devonte turned around and closed the door. He had a big grin on his face, and a water ball in his hand.

"Hehehe, he won't see this—" He said turning around. He saw me and he dropped his water on my floor. I raised one eyebrow and frowned. I looked at my wet carpet and back at him.

"What were you planning to do with that?

"Oh umm... I just wanted to properly congratulate you on getting your element. Just a little water ball to the face, nothing more," he replied.

"Right, so yeah you could just leave, nothing more," I said. He didn't move a muscle. I had just woke up, I wasn't in the mood for his pranks. I pretended to get out of bed.

"Hold on, okay!" He was trying not to laugh.

"Devonte, get out." He sprinted out of the door,  finally. I walked toward the bathroom, ready to do the deeds any normal person would do.

Before hopping in the shower, I grew suspicious. I thought nothing of it and hoped in. After brushing my teeth, I put on a red t-shirt, some basketball shorts, black socks, with my Nike slippers.

The typical summer wear, for a guy. Downstairs, mom was making breakfast, and dad was watching the news. Devonte was sitting on the chair eating a plate of breakfast. I walked by and stole a strip of his bacon.

"Oh Devin, you're finally awake. Here's your breakfast," mom said. She handed me my plate and I walked back into the living room, after hearing the news reporter.

The news anchor stood in front of the Weldom Apartments.

"Last night, 15-year-old Rachel Simmons, ran away from her home in Weldom. I received reports that her mother flew out of the window. Unfortunately, there was no evidence of how she fell from the three-story building. Rachel ran immediately and left a note.

'I'm not a murderer. I promise I didn't know.'

Back to you Mike..."

She had the skin color of a penny. Her brown hair fell to her shoulders and she had a small mole on her left cheek. Her eyebrows were thin and arched. She had the smile of an innocent a little girl. No one will see her like that anymore. They will treat her as a fugitive and a convict.

Dad muted the TV and took off his glasses. "So, before I get to the important stuff, does anyone has any questions," he said.

I looked at Devonte and he shook his head. While I brushed my teeth, I was suspicious of a few things about Cade. How did he know my parents? How did he find us? Was he a friend of the family? A former colleague? Their classmate? Maybe he is family... Our uncle had mysteriously disappeared over a decade ago, without a trace. Dad searched for years but ultimately gave up. What if that was him? He reminded me of ours, just a little bit.

"You don't think that guy...was our uncle?" I looked at my brother for support and he swallowed hard.

"Yeah, that's been bothering me too," Devonte included.
