~Summer~
~June 27, 2015~

My arm instantly caught fire and I took in a deep breath. I didn't want to go overboard with my fire, so I balled my fist up. Fire emerged out of the end of my palms and took the form of long daggers.

The bears didn't seem intimidated by my sudden burst of energy and power. I went on the offensive and charged at the one in front of me. The grizzly struck with all its might, I ducked and threw a right hook. My fire dagger cut and burned through the bear's skin.

I let off a barrage of hooks, uppercuts, and jabs. It almost felt like I was hitting a furry punching bag. Blood spewed everywhere and the smell of charred fur filled the air. After one last strike, the grizzly fell on its back with smoke rising from its body.

I quickly turned around and dodged a swipe from the bear behind me. I drove my fists into its stomach. I held my right hand in a 'stop' signal and aimed at the bear's heart. A surge of energy rushed through my veins and I unleashed a fierce blast that knocked the animal on its back.

I turned around and checked to see if Devonte was doing alright. He had managed to kill two of the bears already.

The last grizzly clawed at Devonte but didn't make contact. Devonte held his right arm forward. A wall of water formed from his vortex and multiple liquified balls shot out. What is that going to do to a bear? He balled his fist and the water turned into mini ice spears. The ice pelted and pierced the bear one after another. A number of them striking the bear in the chest.

The grizzly roared in rage and swiped in every direction. The bear fell to the ground and Devonte dropped his hand. His vortex evaporated from below him as he hunched over to catch his breath. I walked over to Devonte and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"That was eventful," I said.

"That was the most fun we've had here in years. I've never had the chance to use my element," he responded. Devonte looked over his arms and stared into his palms.

"The bears, Devonte."

"Oh, right." He crouched down and began severing the paws. I went back to collect the things requested by mom and dad.

Devonte was right, that was very fun. Using my powers made me feel stronger. I watched over the corpses, questioning my dad's rules.

'What's so bad about using them here,' I thought. Once I cut off the last paw, I placed it in my backpack. There's nothing I could think of that could kill us, as long as we use our power. We're elementists, nothing in the normal world could kill us.

I now have acquired 14 paws, six more to go. Devonte walked next to me and put his hand in his pocket.

"How about we go kill some more bears, but together this time?" he asked. We shared a brotherly moment, where a stronger bond began to form between us. Fighting together would be a nice change of pace.

"Yeah sure, that'll be cool," I responded.

His face lit up with joy, "yes!"

I laughed at his excitement, "let me clean off my spear." I reached in my backpack and ripped off a little piece of cloth to clean my spear.

"Oh, I was thinking we could use our elements," he rubbed the back of his neck. I tossed the bloody piece of cloth aside.

"You know dad is going to kill us right?" I stood up, eyeing him.

He shrugged his shoulders, "we've already used them," he said hastily. "We might as well continue, to finish this faster."

I sighed, "we're so dead."
