INT. SHIXIANG'S FAMILY ESTATE
- STUDY -
NIGHT
THE CHANCELLOR, Shixiang's father, stands in his study, pacing restlessly. His face is stern, his mind clearly occupied by troubling thoughts. A stack of documents lies on his desk, and a small oil lamp casts a dim light over the room.
SERVANT LIU JIAN, an older, loyal servant, enters quietly, carrying a sealed letter.
SERVANT LIU JIAN
(Bowing) "Master, a letter has arrived. It was delivered with urgency."
The Chancellor takes the letter, breaking the seal quickly. His eyes narrow as he reads the contents, his expression growing darker with each passing line.
CHANCELLOR
(Muttering) "More reports of dissent... and rumors of a reformist movement gaining traction among the scholars."
He sets the letter down, his fingers drumming against the desk in agitation. His mind turns to Shixiang, and a suspicion begins to take root—a suspicion that his son may be involved in these dangerous ideas.
CHANCELLOR
(To Servant LIU JIAN, sharply) "Have you noticed anything unusual about Shixiang lately? Any... associations that I should be aware of?"
Servant Liu JIAN hesitates, his eyes flickering with uncertainty.
SERVANT LIU JIAN
(Cautiously) "Young Master Shixiang has been away from the estate, butI have not seen anything particularly unusual, sir."
The Chancellor's eyes narrow, not satisfied with the vague response.
CHANCELLOR
(Coldly) "Keep an eye on him, Liu. Report to me anything out of the ordinary."
Servant Liu Jian bows deeply, understanding the weight of the Chancellor's words.
SERVANT LIU JIAN
"Yes, Master. I will watch over him closely."
