After I finish the short lesson (since most are pretty young) the children get a chance to practice the new techniques they've learned by painting a couple pictures. I have a bin of second hand toys for the children to use as 'models' for their pictures.

I watch as the children dig through the large bin pulling out things like Barbie dolls, hot wheel cars, and various other toys. I walk in circles around the room looking over the children's shoulders and helping them when needed.

I walk over to Grace and see that she is painting a teapot and teacup. Across the table Katy is painting a compass. Quite an interesting choice. I continue around the room when I notice an empty blue chair. Roland. I turn to see he is still digging through the toy bin.

I walk over and sit criss-cross-applesauce next to him. "You okay bud?" I ask

"Ya I just can't find anything I like," he states sadly slumping down on his knees while still balancing on his feet.

"Maybe I can help with that," I say as I start to dig through the bin, "what about a..." I say digging through the bin race car?" And I hold up the car.

"No..."

"Well is there something you want to paint?" I ask sympathetically.

"Well when I was at the store with my daddy I saw a bow and arrows with cool colors!" He exclaims his face suddenly showing a smile.

"Ok how about this..." I say reaching my for my purse on my desk, "I can look up a photo of a Bow and arrow on my phone. And you can paint that!"

"Okay!"

"But just this once..." I smirk handing him my phone.

I smile as he ran back to his seat to begin his masterpiece.
