"Should we--"

"No," I say, pushing my empty glass towards the edge of the bar. "We're going to pretend we never saw him. Now, can I get another?"

Mike nods and retrieves the bottle of Fireball from the fridge, pouring me a healthy glass, which I down in one swift gulp before holding it out for him to fill again. He chuckles as he empties the bottle.

"Well, it looks like you owe me a bottle of Fireball."

"That wasn't even half full when I got here," I argue as he throws it in the trash.

"Details, details," he says in a sing-song voice, pulling a fresh bottle from the fridge. "Hey, wait, actually, where'd the coke go?"

I pull it out of my pocket and set it on the bar. "I kinda lied to Jax."

He chuckles and holds the bag up to examine it. "Who woulda thunk. Surprised you had it in you."

"Why?"

"I don't know, you just always seemed to have a soft spot for him."

"You sound jealous, Mike," I say, sipping my drink to hide my smirk.

"Of course I'm jealous!" he exclaims. "Who wouldn't wanna be the princess's right hand man?"

"Fair point," I say with a laugh.

"You know, there were rumors going around that you two were sleeping together."

Fireball nearly shoots out my nose. "For real? Gross! He's literally married."

"You only just now found that out," Mike says between laughs.

I roll my eyes and grab the bong, lighting it so I can take a hit. When I'm done I pass it to Mike, who practically sucks the thing dry.

"But be honest," he says as he exhales a cloud of smoke, "was there ever anything between you?"

I shake my head, unable to stop smiling. "Nothing more than friendship."

"Not even a vibe?"

I consider that for a moment, thinking back to how at ease he always made me feel. The memories of Kai that always resurfaced when he was around. But it was the Oni who put that idea in my head in the first place. If anything, those feelings were forced upon us by nosy onlookers.

"I mean, my father once suggested that he'd be my King someday," I say, "but I think he was just trying to distract me from Kai. Truth is, I haven't even thought of anyone like that yet."

"Yet?" Mike repeats, and I swear I saw a glimmer of hope in his gold-flecked eyes.

"Can't mourn my dead fiancé forever, can I?" I say with a shrug. The nonchalance is just a facade though-- the thought of moving on from Kai tears my heart apart. "But I don't wanna talk about that."

"Right, sorry," he says, looking away.

I glance down at the bag laying between us on the bar, and my nose begins to tingle at the thought of doing cocaine. I'm already extremely high from the weed, and I'm thinking the ecstasy is starting to kick in because the Frank Sinatra record that's been playing in the background this whole time seems louder and more pleasant than before. I reach across the bar and grab Mike's hand, leading him closer to the source of the music before spinning into his arms.

"What're you doing?" he says with a laugh.

"Dancing," I say, spinning away from him this time. "What's it look like I'm doing?"

"Making yourself dizzy."

I shoot him a playful glare, but spin towards him again, grabbing onto his waist and beginning to sway. He follows my lead, and we eventually waltz our way around his room. We continue to dance until the record ends and I'm a giggling mess.
