She realized what she never thought she would:

She needed a man in her life. After Peter was gone, she thought it was over. That was the love of her life and she lost it. Maybe that wasn't true.

She felt herself wanting to inch closer. She wanted him to keep holding her, comforting her. It was the only thing keeping her going right now.

Elliot, on the other hand, had already went through these questions. When Kathy was arrested, he got full custody of his kids. It wasn't hard for him to give them whatever they needed and wanted, because ACS was watching him. He couldn't fail, not in the slightest bit. He knew what was right to do. Olivia did too, she just needed to be reminded. And he was going to do so.

As soon as she sat down in front of him at her desk the first day, he knew he was in for a long haul. She was looking down, but looked up and locked her chocolate eyes on him, moving her bangs with her right hand. She smiled her beautiful smile and said hello.

She was perfect.

She never stopped being perfect.

He knew right away he wanted her.
That feeling, he knew, would never go away.

As he cradled this woman's head with his left hand, he knew he needed to do something. He would never forgive himself if he didn't try.

So he pulled her closer with the arm that was around her waist and rested his forehead on hers.

"I'm going go kiss you," he said, just above a whisper.

"Okay," she said in a sweet, light quiet voice that Elliot loved.

His fingers traveled to her chin and leaned her lips upward, then leaned his down so the two met.

The kiss was so gentle, slow, and bittersweet. It was so...nice. Elliot pushed Olivia back until her back was against a wall and he kissed her harder, hands dropping to her waist.

The kiss grew more desperate, hungry. They both wanted want each other. Needed each other. And whatever little games they were playing before, it was over. Now, it was real.

Kisses melted into other kisses, not stopping for other reason than air. They both pulled away, but their foreheads still touched, as they caught their breaths together.

It was a comfortable, welcomed silence. Neither wanted to let a moment of such pass. But it did, when Olivia's cell phone rang. The caller ID was a phone number, not a contact name, so she was confused. But answered. "Olivia Benson?"

"Yes, this is Rachel Carter, your daughter...Nicole's, school principal," Olivia heard through the phone.

"Alright...?" Olivia said.

"I was just wondering if there was a reason for your daughter's absence today? She had not shown up to her homeroom or first period and I wanted to make sure I wasn't marking her truant."

Both fear and rage ran through the detective. Instead of freaking out, Olivia calmly said, "Oh, yes! I must've forgotten to call. She's home with an upset stomach and a fever." If Nicole was getting in trouble with anyone, it would be her mother. Not principal.

"Oh, alright! Tell her to get well."

They hung up and Olivia immediately went back to freaking out.

"What?" Elliot asked.

"N-N-Nicole. She cut class! She isn't at school! Where is she?! Oh my god-"

"Hey," Elliot said, with a somewhat authoritative tone, "I don't think she's in trouble."

Olivia turned and looked at him, now pissed off. "Hey, news flash. Not every kid is like your twins. All perfect and smart and does whatever their parents tell them. Nicole never listens! She never does what she's supposed to. She does whatever the hell she wants bec-"

Elliot took her by her shoulders. "Calm down. My kids are not perfect. They make mistakes, they fail tests, they don't do their chores and they don't have a mom. They never did. They aren't even biologically mine."

Olivia's mind suddenly stopped. "What? But they look like you. Dickie looks so much like you."

"They're my niece and nephew. But they've been under my care so long they just call me dad."

Olivia was still so confused. "I don't..."

"My brother was dating this girl for like 4 months. They'd get together, so drugs, and have sex. She got pregnant and they still went out and did those things. I called Child Services and they were both arrested. My brother had other charges against him, so he's still in jail. Kathy got out but went straight back to drugs, and right back to jail."

Something stuck in Olivia's mind. "Kathy? Why do I know that name?" she mumbled to herself.

Elliot's couldn't helped but be a little shocked. "Was your cell mate when you were UC named Kathy?"

Olivia now remembered. "Yeah! She was. That wasn't..."

"Was she blonde? Having withdrawal symptoms? That's Kathy. I know all about that Sealview place. I didn't want you going UC there."

Olivia couldn't believe it. Elliot didn't have any kids? Well yeah, he did. His niece and nephew were his kids. But...wow. And here she was worrying about her daughter who had it way better than any of them did. How selfish, I am, Olivia thought. But she still was worried. What mother wouldn't be?

Olivia didn't know how to bring up she needed to find her daughter without looking careless, so she stayed quiet, which meant Elliot would have to talk or they'd be on there all day.

Luckily, he got the message. "So yeah, no child is perfect. Nicole did cut class. But she's probably at home avoiding Kat and all them. Let's go head over there, okay?" Elliot asked.

Olivia nodded, accepting the hug Elliot offered. Then they left. Work technically didn't start for a half hour so they were fine.

Elliot drove because he didn't trust Olivia driving when she was scared and upset. Upon entering the Benson household, when they got there, they saw Nicole's black bookbag on the floor. Both detectives relaxed.

Olivia quietly made her way to her daughter's room and opened the door. Nicole lie under the covers, avoiding the world.

"Nic?" Olivia asked quietly.

"What?" Nicole asked, trying to hide the fact she was crying.
