Nicole and Elliot rushed home, grabbing the younger ones. They were both well aware is wasn't smart to leave a 3 and 9 year old home alone, but Nicole knew they would be fine.
They all got in Elliot's car and he started it up. "Is there anywhere your mom would go to...do anything? Does she go drink or anything like that?"
"Only on occasion. But I don't..."
The brunette thought for a minute, then remembered something. "We have a house. It was my grandmother's but my mom never sold it after she died. Sometimes Mom goes up there."
"Where is it?"
"Not far," she said, the proceeded to give him directions to an old, rundown house.
Olivia had been there since she got off work. She dumped her car at some parking lot and walked the rest of the way, in case someone came to find her. She figured her daughter would call, but she knew she couldn't come home. She was drunk. In Olivia's mind, she planned that she would claim she had an overnight case.
Lying on the couch that she swore still reeked of alcohol, she saw headlights shine through the curtains.
No, she thought to herself. Who's here?!
Elliot told the children to wait in the car as he went up to the door. It was unlocked, so he let himself inside.
It was dark, smelled highly of alcohol, and everything was falling apart under the cobwebs.
"Olivia?" he asked, knowing she had to be here. He could feel it.
Olivia had hidden herself behind the side of the couch. She knew if she stayed quiet, he would leave. He had to.
But he didn't.
He looked in the room she was first, making sure to look in every nook and cranny. It wasn't hard to find his partner because she wasn't her three year old and couldn't curl into a tiny ball.
He bent down in front of her and touched her shoulder. "Found you."
"Go away!" she said loudly, still in her sat-up, fetal position.
"I can't. You need to go home to your kids."
"They can't see me like this. Tell Nicole I got caught in a case."
"She already knows you're here. She told me to come here. They're in the car right now."
"All of them?" she looked up into the blue eyes she had noticed 9 hours ago.
Elliot noticed she was crying and couldn't help but wipe away some tears. She welcomed the gesture, not sure she could even try to refuse anyways. She was so weak. All her feelings exploding at her at once.
"They can't see me like this. Please...I swear I'm not gonna do anything. Just leave me alone. Please, Elliot."
"I can't. And those kids need their mother. Where are they gonna go if both parents disappear?"
"I'm not gonna abandon them!" Olivia's voice had gotten louder and a tad more high pitched. She was getting angry, but it was the alcohol talking.
"But they have to go home. Paige needs to be in bed soon."
"Then go take 'em home! I'll be here."
"I'm not leaving you alone," Elliot said. It was all too dangerous.
"Elliot," Olivia said. He secretly loved it when she said that, especially the ragged, raw way she did. "I promise. I'm gonna be here. I'll stay right here. But take my kids home."
