The next day it was back to our usual routine with Levi demanding we continue to clean the castle until it was spotless. It was a hell of a lot of work! The castle was huge and he wanted it freaking spotless...... Yeah right, like we could do that. Except from our task, the day seemed to be going ok. That all changed once we were informed that Hanji's two titans had been killed. We were all ordered to head towards her experimenting area at once. When Hanji was informed, she looked like a mother who had just been told her children were killed. She looked horrified.
Arriving in front of the two corpses, their bodies were already becoming nothing but bones due to the acid. Hanji let out a scream of horror and pain upon seeing her two precious titan's having been killed. A big crowd was scattered around looking at the Titan's in confusion. Who had done such a thing? Hanji cried in front of her test subjects while the rest of us were scattered around. I was stood next to Eren who had the hood over his head to hide him from view.
"What, is this?" Eren muttered out in shock. Nobody could believe that the two subjects had been murdered. Never before had this happened.
"Let's go." Levi ordered in reply. "It's up to the Military Police now." With that he turned and walked away.
"R...right." Eren frowned, but stayed still where he was. Hearing footsteps, I glanced over and saw Erwin approach Eren from behind. He bent down so his head was next to Eren's.
"What do you see?" Erwin asked mysteriously. "What do you think the enemy is?" Eren looked alarmed and extremely confused. Chuckling, I faced Erwin and raised an eyebrow.
"He won't understand." I mumbled out so he could hear.
"I'm sorry to ask something so odd." He apologised, pulling back and walking away over to where Levi stood. Eren turned and watched them both walk off as he stood there contemplating what was said. Sighing I ruffled his hair, jerking him back to reality.
"Don't worry about it, you'll understand some day." I grinned. He stared at me confused before letting it go and focusing back on the crying and screaming Hanji. Frowning, I turned to watch Erwin as he walked away. He had meant that other humans were our enemy, not just the Titans. They did things like betraying their own kid. Nobody except themselves knew why, however it would still affect people even they cared for. We would find out who did it. No matter what.
That next day, Erwin was scheduled to do a speech for the new recruits. I had a feeling that knowing him, he would end up repelling half of the recruits, especially after the fall of Wall Rose. Though it was retaken again after, due to the all of the disasters and deaths, they would surely be put off. Nobody liked going up against Titans. That was understandable, however, not all of us had the luxury to stay behind the walls and hide. Something had to be done, and that was exactly what we would do. We would fight for those hiding within the walls, the cowards that they are.
While Erwin went off to do his speech for the new recruits, we went back to the castle. Dismounting our horses, we all put them back in their stables. Raven whinnied happily as I stroked her neck. Eren could be heard coming up behind so I turned and smiled at him, catching him off guard.
"What's wrong?" I asked warmly.
"Nothing, I just um.... Wanted to thank you. Ya know because you've been there for me, Armin and Mikasa throughout this whole mess. Especially me." He blushed, rubbing the back of his neck. Ruffling his hair I pulled him for a hug. Due to being taller than me, it ended up with my head resting on his shoulder.
"It's nothing ok kid? Just count me as a family member. After all, I am your guardian." I grinned cheekily, pulling back to look him in the eyes.
"You look more like a well-developed little sister." He teased, rubbing at his eyes which had watered slightly.
"Don't underestimate me because of my height mister." I scoffed, punching him in the shoulder. He groaned and rubbed at it in pain. Laughing, I kissed him on the cheek before turning and walking off. He was a cute kid.Once I'd left the stables, I went and joined in with Eld's and Gunther's conversation. They were sat on the outside steps discussing what was going on with the experiments and investigations. The 3D Maneuver Gear for all soldiers was being looked at to see who could have killed Sonny and Bean.
"It looks like they couldn't find any soldiers who used their Maneuver Gear without permission." Gunther sighed. "Then who did it?" Eld took a sip of his tea before replying.
"No idea.... Right now, I'm more worried about the upcoming induction ceremony. How many of the new cadets are actually crazy enough to join us?"
"Hey, Eren?" Gunther called out to the blushing kid who was feeding the horses. His blush disappeared and he looked up to see who called him. "Are there any people in your class who'd join us?"
"There are some." Eren informed him. "No, there were some. I don't know about now." He frowned, looking at the horse in confusion at his inner thoughts.
"Attention!" A soldier called out at the sound of horse hooves. Levi pulled up on his horse and ordered people to get ready.
"We're going out on patrol." He informed everyone.
"Good morning, Corporal Levi!" Eren exclaimed, coming over to salute our Corporal.
"Listen Eren..... Never stay more than two horse lengths from me. Don't forget that the only reason you're not locked up is because I'm watching you and Rin is your guardian." He warned.
"Yes, sir!" The dutiful boy responded. Laughing to myself, I came up behind Eren and threw my arms around him, looking up at Levi with mischief in my eyes.
"Why not share a horse? Then you can watch him all the time because he'll be right behind you!" I exclaimed, sounding as if I had come up with the solution to all problems. "I'm a genius!"
"Shut it Rin." Levi grumbled. Pouting, I looked away.
"You're no fun." I huffed. From the corner of my eye I could see him roll his eyes at me. Though he quickly glared warningly at Eren to get away from me. The boy understood and shuffled away from my side. Possessive midget.Levi, Eren, Eld and Gunther geared and mounted up before riding out. He had decided to leave the rest of us here. Shrugging, I wandered off into the castle looking for Petra. Girl time!
Searching round the massive castle, I finally stumbled across her in the kitchen. Last place I thought to look. Hearing my stumbling footsteps, she looked up confused before giggling when she saw that I'd managed to lose my footing and fall over. Landing with a thud, I groaned.
"Ouch. That hurt." I complained, standing up and rubbing at my ass.
"Where are the others?" She asked curiously, seeing that I wasn't bugging anyone else.
"They're currently out patrolling." I explained. She nodded in understanding before going back to chopping up something. Strolling over, I saw that she was chopping up the potatoes. Petra was cooking? "Since when do you cook?"
"I used to like cooking. Before joining the Survey Corps that is. I used to help my mum in the kitchen." She revealed to me, a happy look on her face. She looked so happy reliving the memories in her mind that I had to ask.
"Do you ever regret joining the Survey Corps?" Her eyes snapped to mine and she looked shocked.
"Not at all. I mean, sure I'd like to be at home with my parents, but I chose to do this. To protect mankind and that's exactly what I will do." Petra's voice came out determined and content. Smiling warmly, I threw my arms round her in a hug. Startled, she let out a noise of surprise and wobbled a bit before balancing out and laughing.
"Well I'm glad, otherwise I'd have to deal with Mr. Midget and Miss. Nutcase by myself." I sighed relieved, my voice teasing as I referenced Levi and Hanji. She laughed and continued cutting the potatoes as I clung to her back. "Mind if I help?" I asked.
"Sure." She smiled. I let go of her and after she handed me another knife, I got to work on helping her cut up the potatoes. Wasn't there a girl that Eren informed me of receiving the nickname Potato girl? Wonder if she'll join us........We had managed to cut up all the potatoes needed for the hungry Survey Corps and had cooked up the roast dinner by the time the patrol group and everyone else came in for dinner. Petra and I served them the food while they collected plates and lined up. Once everyone had been served, we collected our own plates and served ourselves. Sitting down with it being just the two of us, we began eating. Surprisingly what I had helped cook was acting tasty. Never trust me with the cooking. They had learnt that in the first few weeks after I had joint the Survey Corps. First meal I cooked had been over cooked and burnt. After that it was declared that I would never again cook. Especially after I tried again and ended up mixing in odd ingredients. Quite a few people had been sick after that. While I found it amusing, they all ignored me for a week. That was just mean......
As we ate, Eren and Levi came over to join us. Levi kept giving me pointed looks, easily telling me that I was not going to be sharing a room with Petra tonight. God he was bossy.
"Who do you reckon will still join us tomorrow Eren?" Petra asked curiously.
"I'm not sure anymore." He confessed.
"Oh, I think I know." I chuckled, my thoughts instantly going to a certain raven haired girl that was protective over the boy in front of us. No matter how dangerous it was, she was certain to join.
"Who?" Levi demanded.
"None of your business." I grinned, poking my tongue out childishly. He rolled his eyes while Petra giggled and Eren looked shocked at my behaviour towards the small but intimidating Corporal. He needed to get used to that.... Like seriously.
