Chapter 15

Regaining consciousness, I realised that I was stationed on the back of a wagon. Huh? What had happened? Images flashed through my head causing me to cry out in both shock and horror. Heads turned towards me as we rode through the fields. We weren't back within the walls? What had happened after I passed out? Looking down beside me, I saw Eren lying there as well. All my comrades had died then Eren had fought the titan. How did he end up in this state? We were ordered to stop the wagons to sort out the dead bodies and do other things. The wagon we were in came to a stop and Mikasa hopped down from her horse to come over and check on Eren. Levi came over to me and though his face was cold, his eyes were concerned.
"Are you ok?" He asked, his eyes scanning my body. Trying to sit up, a whole lot of pain spread through my body. Letting out a whimper through gritted teeth, I saw him wince slightly at the sight of me in pain. Mikasa also looked alarmed and her eyes flew to me.
"I'm fine. Luckily I can still use my body. Where's my horse?" I demanded.
"You're not riding. Whether you like it or not, you have to rest." Another voice spoke up from the side. Glancing over, I saw Hanji standing there. "Rest. No riding Rin. That's an order from Commander Erwin."
"Stuff that! I've slept enough, there's no way I'm going to stay down when......." I protested.
"Enough!" Levi exclaimed. "You are going to lay down and rest or I'll tie you up and make you." He threatened. My eyes widened at the serious tone in his voice and I felt tears well up in my eyes.
"I was useless! I watched as they all died! Don't make me feel even more useless just laying here. At least let me ride my own horse." I cried, tears flowing over my cheeks. Levi's eyes widened and so did everyone else's who stood within ear shot. "I couldn't even scratch the damn titan before she swatted me away like a bug!"
"Corporal Rin...." Mikasa began. "Please. Rest." She begged.
"Do as you're told or you'll be even more useless than you already are." Levi growled out. My eyes flew to his in shock and hurt. He was right but even so..... Hearing those words come out of his mouth, hurt more than I had thought it would.
"Levi....." Hanji protested. He shook his head then turned and walked in the opposite direction, towards where the dead bodies were.
"It's fine. He's right." I laughed weakly, rubbing at my eyes. Taking a deep breath and calming myself, I laid back down and put my arm over my eyes so my sight was blocked out. Closing my eyes, I tried to relax my body, knowing that with the amount of pain going through me, it meant to that I was covered in bruises. For all I know, there could be more danger than that. Best relax and try to recuperate as best as I could.
"Rin?" Mikasa's concerned voice called.
"I'm fine Mikasa, honestly. I'll keep an eye on Eren. Go help the rest." I smiled, eyes still covered. I heard her footsteps walk away and sighed. Why was I stupid enough to have acted on my anger? I had been trained better than that. Anger made a soldier blind and foolish. Petra's smiling face flashed through my mind and so did the times that I had spent with the other soldiers. Tears once again flowed down my cheeks as I thought of them. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry.......

Footsteps began approaching the wagon but I didn't move my arm. Those footsteps were familiar so I knew exactly who it was. What did he want? The footsteps stopped next to the wagon where my head rested. It was silent before I felt something press themselves against my lips. Shocked, my arm moved slightly to see Levi's head pull back and a grim look to cross onto his face.
"Sorry." He muttered before walking off. That sorry held a lot of meanings that I was able to see through. Sorry I couldn't protect you. Sorry about their deaths. Sorry you had to see it. Sorry I left you all. Sorry I didn't get their quick enough, and sorry I was mean earlier. Smiling softly, I stared up at the blue sky. Such a peaceful day and yet so much sorrow and fear was felt on a day like this. If there truly was a God, why was he letting this happen, and why did my friends have to be taken away from me? Isabel, Farlan, Petra, Oluo, Gunther, Eld, and many more. So many lives were taken because of those ugly titans that roamed the earth and threatened our lives. When would the whole thing bloody end?
