The Strongest Alive (Levi x OC)

Chapter 12

Over the course of the next few days, we were informed of our new formation for our upcoming expedition. Only we few were informed of Eren's true place in the formation. There was a traitor amongst us and so only the chosen few trusted people were informed. I had a feeling another plan had been laid down but we were not informed. This bugged the hell out of me but I stayed silent, understanding why Erwin was so wary.

Today was the day that the new recruits arrived and I could that Eren was curious as to who would turn up. At the moment however we were outside away from the castle. Everyone was crowded around Eld while he explained where we were. Levi was off to the side letting his horse lick his hand before he stroked him. For being a clean freak, he didn't seem to care in that moment.
"The Special Operations Squad will be here," He informed us, "standing by in the center of the last ranks.
"We're pretty far back." Eren commented.
"It's the safest place in the formation." Gunther explained. "We're even more heavily guarded than the supply waggons. Our goal this time is just to go and return safely. This expedition is so brief because it's a practise run for your journey to Shinganshina."
"Um... I still don't know what this power should be used for.... " Eren confessed.
"Did you understand what the Commander's question meant?" Gunther asked.
"Did you all understand?" Eren asked shocked.
"No." Eld admitted looking down. Petra shook her head while I nodded grinning.
"It would be an understatement to say I understand it all." Oluo spoke up sounding confident. But I think...." He was cut off when Gunther began talking again. He looked annoyed while I laughed at him.
"It's possible this mission has another goal, but the Commander has decided it'd be best not to reveal that objective. So we should just focus on getting there and back." Gunther sighed. He stood up and looked down at Eren with confidence. "Just believe in the Commander."
"Right." Eren muttered seeming a tad confused. Gunther turned and walked off while the rest of us stayed.
"That's all the training for today." Gunther announced. "Prepare to return to base." Eren looked thoughtful and almost like he was losing confidence in himself. Everyone mounted up while I nudged the boy. He looked up and sighed when he saw my concerned face. Getting up, he walked past me towards his horse. I watched him walk away concerned but followed his lead and went over to mount my own horse.

We all rode back and the sun was setting by the time we got back. Eren was ordered to clean our the horses while we all hang around the castle, whether that be outside or inside. Petra had gone in to start cooking while Eld and Gunther went and hung out somewhere. Oluo was hanging around outside and Levi was with his horse. Me? Well I was going around bugging Oluo about Petra. I knew that by copying Levi he was trying to impress Petra but teasing him about how much he was failing was highly amusing.
"Shut up." He snapped.
"Nope." I grinned, popping the 'p'. "You know I'm right and you don't want to admit it." When he didn't respond, I frowned disappointed and wandered off over to Levi. "Levi!" I whined. "Oluo's being mean to me." I pouted and gave him my puppy eyes but he made his classic 'tch' noise and igored me. "Why are you so grumpy?" I questioned him.
"Because you're annoying. Bugga off" He answered simply. My eyes welled up with fake tears and I put on a hurt face.
"Oh. So you don't want me around you. I understand. You never loved me did you?" I accused him, knowing for a fact that he had fallen for my tears. He looked shocked at my reaction but shrugged.
"No." He answered. I felt my heart falter and almost believed him before I saw the hint of a smile playing on his lips. He knew I was faking the tears!
"Well if that's the case, I'll go find Eren for comfort." I huffed, turning and beginning to walk away. He grabbed hold of my hand and spun me back to him. My face was against his chest and my body pressed against his own.
"No. You wont." He practically growled in my ear. His voice was slightly husky showing that our proximity was having an affect on him. Ha! Couldn't help himself, could he? Hearing footsteps coming closer to us, I turned slightly to see the new recruits. Among them was two very familiar faces. I knew it! Grinning, I saw Eren call out to them. They turned instantly and Mikasa began worrying over him.
"Eren, did they do anything bad to you?" She demanded, grabbing hold of his hand in her two hands. "Did they examine you all over? Did they psychologically torture you?" Woah! She was going a bit over the top there.
"Nothing like that." Eren reassured her. Her face suddenly turned dark and angry.
"That midget bastard crossed the line. Someday, I'll make him pay." I heard her mumble. Laughing quietly to myself, Levi rolled his eyes before walking off, dragging me along with him.
