5 months later.....
It had been five months since that day, and Levi hadn't talked to me since. He began to ignore me with a pained and angry look on his face if he so much as caught a glance of me. It hurt me to know that my friend was ignoring me. He had slowly become emotionless and more angry, nobody could get him to crack a smile anymore. I had been in a state of depression for a few months before recovering slowly and now I hid behind a metaphorical mask. Those who saw me would reckon I was happy and care free, however, inside was the true struggle. Though I had become used to it so now it was an immediate reaction to crack a smile.
Today was one of the rare days that the Survey Corps had off. On this free day, I decided to go for a stroll through the Shinganshina District. Walking through the streets, people turned to stare at me as I passed. They knew who I was but it seemed like nobody had the confidence to talk to me. The streets seemed frantic with children running around laughing, and adults busy at work or making their way through the District. The sky was a clear blue with only a few fluffy white clouds floating across. As I was walking, suddenly a smaller figure ran into my legs. Looking down, a brunette boy landed on the floor with a thud and a groan. His teal green eyes gazed up at me in awe once he saw my Survey Corps jacket. He wore normal townsfolk clothes which consisted of brown trousers, a green shirt with string tassels at the collar, a maroon coat, and simple brown shoes. To his left was a boy with big blue eyes and blonde hair that framed his face. He wore different clothes to the other boy. A long-sleeved single-buttoned blue jacket with a cream collared shirt, long brown dress-pants and dress shoes. On the other side of him was a girl. She looked to be of Asian heritage and had long black hair that stopped a few inches below her shoulders. Her calm black eyes reminded me of Levi, causing my heart to constrict with the memory of the death and the fact that after that, Levi had stopped talking to me. She wore a white dress, a red scarf and cream coat as well as white sandals.
"Sorry kid, you ok?" I smiled while offering him my hand. He grabbed hold of my hand in both of his and jumped up grinning.
"You're part of the Survey Corps aren't you?" He asked excitedly. Nodding, I watched the boy amused at his reaction. Seems like he respected the Survey Corps. "I'm Eren Jaeger. This is Mikasa Ackerman." At that my head snapped towards her. Extraordinary. She looked like him and had his name as well. What was going on? Were they related somehow?
"I know who you are. Corporal Rin, the strongest female alive. Rivalling the very strength of Corporal Levi." The blonde one informed them in awe.
"You know your stuff kid. What's your name?" I smirked as the other two copied his look of awe.
"A-Armin..... Ar-Arlert ma'am." He stammered embarrassed.
"It's nice to meet you all. Do you all live round here?"
"Yeah we do. What's it like on the Survey Corps?" Eren replied with another question. He seemed to want to learn about the Survey Corps. Did he want to join when he was older?
"Hmmm...... well, the Survey Corps is dangerous but I believe that, though there are horrid sacrifices to be made each time we go out, we are doing good for the people in these walls. To find out about these ugly Titans and cut them down where they stand. One day hopefully we can escape these walls and go out into the world that is unknown to us. I wish to defeat the enemy and protect those I care for and those who are innocent." A soft smile graced my lips as I talked of my beliefs. It was refreshing to tell people my own opinions. There was a silence after my little speech and worriedly, my eyes glanced down to the three children to see their reactions. What I saw was a contrast to the other townsfolk. Normally if words like my own escaped a persons lips, they would be judged and hated, also slightly feared. However these young children looked up at me with respect, awe, admiration and excitement in their young eyes. Did they share my views?
"Wow. When I become older I wish to be on the Survey Corps like you." Eren beamed, his childish face lighting up and his eyes glistening. Armin's expression was like Eren's however Mikasa's eyes showed her emotion but only a small smile could be seen.
"Maybe we'll see each other then." I winked. Glancing around my nose picked up on the smell of freshly baked bread. "Are you guys hungry?" Eren and Armin nodded while Mikasa stayed silent but one look into her eyes told me she was. Being around Levi for so long allowed you to be able to read emotions through people's eyes if they try hiding them behind a mask. "Well then, let's go buy some bread! My treat!" The three of them looked happy as we walked off to the shop to buy some bread. May sound plan but freshly baked bread when it's hot is honestly a favourite of mine after all this time in the Survey Corps.
