Chapter 6
After about 30 minutes of sitting and snacking. I hear footsteps slowly approaching the lounge. I stop eating the pretzels and become alert. I see a dark shadowed stretched across the floor. For a second, my mind flashes back to the steel pipe. I freeze. The shadow stays still for a second, as if thinking something over. I hold my breath. What if this is the person that attacked Trent? What if he is here for me? I watch the black outline stretched across the floor. It speedily walks away, as if it changed its mind.
I don’t move. Even when it has gone. I don’t understand what it was. Was it an astronaught? I doubt it.
In a few minutes time, I hear footsteps again. But these are fast paced and heavy, not slow and light. In a few seconds, David is stood in the doorframe looking at me.
“I told you not to come,” I state, standing up and going to put the pretzels away.
“Yeah, but I didn’t listen,” He slowly walks towards me. I have just put the bag back in the cupboard and am standing facing him. Nothing to say…outloud. “Kayla, when I kissed Jessica-“ I cut him off.
“Why are you telling me this?”
“Just let me finish! When I kissed Jessica, it wasn’t my intention. It was her, she kissed me, it wasn’t the other way around,” he looks more confused than I do.
“But you kissed back. David, you don’t have to explain yourself to me. You have girls over
every other weekend. Trust me, I live under you, I can hear,” It’s true. “Why should it be a problem now?” His eyes never leave mine. He looks annoyed at himself,
“Because,” he pauses. “When I saw you, whilst I was…kissing Jessica, I realised that-“another pause, “I wished I was kissing you.”
The blood in my veins go warm and I can feel the redness rushing to my face in a non existent heartbeat. I open my mouth to speak but my words have been silenced.
Before I can say or do anything, David takes my face in his hand and presses his lips against mine. The warmth from his mouth smothers into mine, as if it is shielding us like an electric force field. I open my mouth, allowing his tongue to slide into it. I kiss back now. Even though it feels amazing, I pull apart.
“What was that?” I ask my eyes looking to the floor,
“I had to do that,” is all he says, his hands on my neck. I slowly raise my gaze to his eyes, that are sparkling like glitter on newly fallen snow. We stay like that until Jack comes running in.
“Guys! I’ve been looking everywhere for you!” he explains, out of breath, “Trent’s awake!”
