Chapter 9
We run straight to Jack and Bradley in the control room, a whole crowd of people following us like a stampede.
“What’s wrong?” David asks with his strong voice, trying to get heard out of the loud beeping alarm. Jack, his eyes focused outside, standing behind the second row of pilot seats, just pointed outside the front window.
There was a circle about the size of the shuttle, made of blue, glowing smoke. There were specks of gleaming silver dotted around it and it looked as if it were twisting like a tornado. It seemed familiar….My dream! It was the vortex in my dream that I got pushed into. Wait, It’s exactly the same, just a bit bigger. I turn to David, about to ask him what’s going on when suddenly a force pushes everyone to the left of the shuttle as the floor tilts and screams reverb around the room. My insides turn inside out and my heart starts attacking my chest again, like during take-off but more vigorous. This time, I fear for my life. I personally don’t scream; I’m not a screamer. The blood in my body rushes to my head and I’m slammed against the wall along with several others and some objects, I am almost hit on the head by a flying book, but I just manage to dodge it.
All through this panicking moment, the alarms still flash and sound. As soon as the Shuttle turns back into the normal upright position, with help from Bradley. People get up and run, their yells coming in through different directions. I just sit there on the floor, my head leaning against the wall. My ears are filled with ringing and I stare into a spot outside the window, the vortex is everywhere, like a tunnel we are going through. We went inside it. My head is throbbing with pain and my vision is rotating and fuzzy, I’m almost seeing double, I feel something tickling my upper lip, and slowly, as if in a trance, I lift my hand and put my finger where I feel the warmness. I feel a liquid and look at my finger. Blood. My nose is bleeding. Do I have a concussion? No way, I have to get away from the control room. If anything happens, this block will be the first to go.
I slowly pull myself to my feet and start walking towards the door when I hear David yelling at me,
“Kayla!” I turn to look at him, he’s bent over a pilots chair, alongside Jack, Bradley and a few others. “Move!” he shouts, I hear crumbling behind me, but before looking back, I take David’s word for it and run towards him. I turn around to see the ceiling of the hallways crumbling, blocking the path. Crushing 3 Astronaughts unlucky enough to be underneath that. A squeal escapes from my lips and I crawl my way into the corner where I hug my knees, seeing no other option. Blood is flowing through the mountain of debris. I close my eyes and imagine a happy place. Ponies, Unicorns, Rainbows. But my happiness is interrupted when I hear the crumbling again. This time, its directly above me. I look up to see the ceiling above my head cracking, my heart completely stops and my breath is taken. I look at David, his eyes wide having noticed what is happening. I swallow before David runs towards me and crouches next to me, laying his whole body over me, shielding me with himself. Then the light coming in around him disappears and dust falls down. It’s collapsed
