Chapter 5
When we return, David is vigorously pressing things and pulling levers.
“Hey hey hey, what’s wrong Dave?” Bradley says walking towards David. Jack slowly follows.
“I was thinking why someone would hit Trent round the face-,” Jack cuts him off
“We don’t know that. It could have fallen from the ceiling,” He has a point. David turns towards us and points up. Plain white ceiling – no metal. He turns around and continues inspecting things.
“Besides, the pipe was bent. Gravity isn’t strong enough to do that. It was human force.” He doesn’t need to say anymore, that explains it very clear.
“What were they after, why were you shocked, David?” I ask, still not understanding why someone would do that to Trent. David lets out a sigh.
He turns around and rubs the back of his neck.
“Someone’s changed our course.” Silence fills the room for about 5 seconds until Jack decides to fill in the air with sound.
“Is this a joke?” is all he says.
“Why in hell would I joke about something like this, Jack,” Bradley and Jack rush over to the panel and look at the screens.
“Where are we headed? Can you tell?” Bradley asks.
“No, there’s nothing in the few million mile radius.” Jack answers in David’s place. “We need to call NASA,”
“Yeah, I agree.” David turns around and looks at me, as if just remembering I was there. “Kayla, you should go back to bed,” There’s no way I can sleep, knowing there is someone in this shuttle that doesn’t want anyone in here to be safe. I can’t say this right now though. Not while Jack and Bradley are here. They’ll think I’m a coward.
“No, I’m not tired,” I lie.
“Then go to the lounge,” Is what Jack says.
“Can’t I stay here?”
“Not while we call NASA” David explains “I’ll come get you when we are finished”
“Don’t bother,” I say in a feisty tone that makes David turn his head to the side. I speedily walk off and although I don’t know where the lounge is, I think I’ll manage.
After a few minutes of ending up at dead ends and walking past the same doors, I manage to find lounge 4. It’s quite a big room. You could fit my whole apartment into it 4 times. It’s empty, I’m guessing with my luck I found the furthest one. There are a few couches in one corner with a TV. I didn’t know you could get TV in space. Oh well, I’m not one to ask questions about things I don’t have time to worry about. Then in the other corner is a cupboard. Filled with gravity food I guess. I walk towards it. There’s a sign on the door, Keep closet closed whilst Gravity is off. Fair enough. I open the cupboard to find loads of snacks. I also notice the cupboard has its own gravity machine that can’t be turned off. I grab a bag of pretzels and sit on the couch. Luckily, someone had left the TV open as the remote looked like some sort of futuristic detonator. I don’t focus on the TV. I have this eerie feeling inside me. First, I skipped a day. Now this?
Also, is the person that did that to Trent aboard? Why would they do that? Why change our course into nothingness?
After a lot of pondering and munching on salty pretzels, I come to a conclusion. I have to talk to Trent. He would have seen whoever it was in the glass reflection. Maybe he turned around for a second.
As soon as group 2 go to sleep, I will ask. He may be back to himself by then.
