~A short goodbye~

Ella bolted upright from her peaceful sleep, lifting up the clump of thin blankets and pillows with her- she had just had a brief dream of herself falling and had woken up with a jump. Coming to realisation that it was only a dream, she rubbed her sleep-filled eyes and the distant sounds of day became clearer. She let out an incredibly long, heartfelt yawn and plummeted back into her now untidy pile of pillows. While doing this, she overheard Dan and Phil muttering some words to each other. Usually she would ignore this as there was a thing called 'eavesdropping' which she didn't like to do- yet, since she was half awake and because of the fact they couldn't tell she actually was awake- she decided to snoop in on their conversation.
"Phil what are you trying to say?" Dan said, his voice croaking mid-sentence.
"I'm trying to say I regret last night-" He snapped, clearly frustrated.
Ella's shipper mind began to dream, 'what happened last night'
"But nothing happened last night Phil!"
"I know not much did happen, but, I don't want anything else to happen."
"Huh?"

Phil paused and exhaled before answering, "Dan, let's stay friends."
"What are you saying?"
"I'm saying that I care about our friendship." He paused once more. "Not our relationship."
With that, Ella's heart sunk. Her otp was dying- no, it was literally gone. She kept silent and stayed like that. Her face paled when she heard the depressing sound of Dans voice crack. She could hear the hurt in his articulate voice, and knew he most defiantly was distressed.
"Please don't cry Dan!" Phil comforted. "I'm just not ready for- this, whatever this is."
"I don't get it," Dan wailed. "What did I do for it to come to this?"
"No Dan, it's not you! It's m-"
"Bullshit!" Dan sobbed even louder.

Then, suddenly, everything went quiet. Dans cries of sorrow stopped along with Phil's words. The sound of a pair of footsteps walking round echoed in the room.
"Wake up Ella and tell her to get ready." Dan finally spoke, his voice cool and collected as usual. "I'm going to tell Zoe that I'm feeling unwell and I'm getting on the next train back to London."
Ella waited for Phil to reply. She waited for him to object, for him to stop Dan from going and convince him to stay. Or to tell Dan that he'd go back with him.
Phil did not even reply.
The sound of the door of the room shutting, footsteps walking away and voices swam through Ella's ears. She could not even believe what she had just overheard.

As soon as she knew it Phil was already by her side, lightly shaking her in an attempt to wake her up.
"Ella, wake up-"
"YOU IDIOT!" Ella screamed at him.
"what the-Ah!" Phil screamed back with fright.
He had jumped back and landed with a thud on the floor, missing the pillows are actually hurting himself. She noticed that he was already ready and dressed- which meant their conversation had gone on longer, and that there was more to it than what Ella had heard. Never the less, she still wanted to scream at him.
"Ouch," he said to himself under his breath.
He then turned back to Ella and sighed, "you heard that didn't you?"
"No shit Sherlock." She snapped back; obviously furious.

Phil lifted himself off the floor and rubbed his head with his hand, clearly he was stressed out.
"You're really mad aren't you?" He said with sadness to his voice which Ella hadn't quite heard before.
Phil's personality was just the happiest bundle of adorableness the world could not even handle, there was never really a time when he was sad, well a time when she actually saw him sad. It was unusual, almost alien to her.
Ella paused and bit lightly on the inside of her cheek, "I'm not mad, Phil. I'm just- disappointed."
Phil opened his mouth to speak but Ella didn't let any words escape his parted lips.
"I'm disappointed you let Dan get away. How you let him escape so easily not even stopping him."
Ella lifted herself from her 'bed' and stood up. She was quite short compared to Phil- but that didn't stop her from seeing the emotion in his face. Their heads spun to the direction of the door as they heard the sound of Dans sarcastic laughter coming from outside.

"Don't tell Dan that you know." He said quickly.
The moment he finished speaking the door creaked open and Dan stepped inside. His bland and natural facial expression changed to a brighter one when he saw Ella.
"Oh Morning Ella, you okay?" He said with a tad of his usual sarcastic laughter at the end.
"Never better." She replied- teeth clenched in a fake smile.
Ella regretted replying that way as she thought Dan would've noticed something was wrong- however it seemed he was completely and utterly oblivious.
"Well I have some bad news; I'm not feeling too well so I'm getting the next train back to London."
Phil said nothing.
"What's wrong?" Ella said raising her eyebrows in concern.
"It's nothing; I'm just not feeling myself, you know?"
"Oh," Ella replied slowly." I understand."

Dan stretched his arm out towards her and lightly brushed his pale hand against her tanned arm. Ella replied with a saddened sigh; she didn't want Dan to leave them.
"How about we all go with you?" Ella then insisted.
Dan raised his hands and shook his head, "no, no, you shouldn't miss Zoe's event because of me. I'll be fine."
Dan glanced at Phil before finishing his sentence. "On my own."
The rest of the day past by quickly and briefly. They all packed the minimal amount of things they had brought out their suitcases and thanked Zoe before leaving. As the three of them stepped out the door and heard it shut behind them, they walked onwards and outwards. There was an odd silence between the three of them- none of them even dared to speak.
Ella was the one to break the silence.
"You know, I don't think Alfie liked me."
"Really?" Phil replied with shock.
Dan nodded his head, "I was going to mention something earlier, oh well."

Soon enough, Dan left them both and headed back to London. Phil and Ella then took a taxi to the hotel, Ella was silent during the ride. She had both her earphones in,blasting her a mix of favourite songs, both of new and old. Phil was quiet too. He was more lively once they arrived at the hotel- but he still seemed troubled. They walked inside the pleasant looking hotel and made their way to the front desk to collect their keys. Ella was in her lost in her thoughts while Phil confirmed the keys from the man at the desk. The lounge around the desk was extravagant and too fancy for Ella's liking, it was filled with long white sofas and small glass coffee tables. Ella did not care too much for the decor and continued in her thoughts until they left to go to their room.

However, as the two of them tiredly strolled away to their room. Ella did not realise that a familiar face had come to join her. For one last encounter and to end her joy for a long, long time.
A girl dressed in black sat on the sofa- back turned concealing her face, took out her phone. Her mouth twitched into a small, subtle grin. And she spoke into the phone;
"It me Anna. She's here- what happens next?"
