Lazily, Ella and Phil trudged into the room, their heavy suitcases flung behind them. Ella shut the door behind the two of them, letting it close lightly. When she turned back to Phil- he was already face-first planked onto the bed like a piece of wood.
"Phil?"
"Mm?" He replied, voice muffled.
"You don't really want to go to Zoe's thing, do you?."
He didn't reply for a short while. Ella stood staring down at him, which was unusual because usually he'd look down at her since he was incredibly tall. He hauled himself upright and sat cross-legged on the bed.
"Why would you say that Ella? I'm fine don't worry about me," he said with a sweetness in his voice. "Oh ; can you get my DS out of my suitcase for me? Please?"
Ella crossed her arms at him and raised a concerned eyebrow. He dismissed this. She continued and passed it to him.
The thanked her and began playing some sort of game which Ella thought the soundtrack was surprisingly good.
After what seemed only a few moments of watching Phil attempt to beat level one of his new game, Ella left to her incredibly small bedroom which could barely fit two people. The room was rectangular shaped and only had space for a small bed with a white duvet, a birch wood chest of drawers, and a circular mirror with a wooden rim. Ella sighed and stared at her own reflection. She couldn't quite put her finger on what was wrong with Phil. Yes, he seemed cheerful at the moment with his head wrapped around the game if his, but, what had made him want to stop being with Dan. Well, not entirely - she was just confused of his abrupt and unnecessary friend-zone. Suddenly, Ella jumped at the sound of her phone vibrating in her jean pocket. She took a glance at the screen and saw a text from a blocked number.
'That's strange,' Ella thought to herself.
She then unlocked her phone and replied.
~~~~
Unknown: Hey it's me:3 come down to the lobby xx
Ella: who is this??
Unknown: Leo silly xD
Ella: Leo? How did ya get my number? and how do you know I'm here? x
~~~
The unknown number took a while to reply. Ella became anxious. She didn't remember giving Leo her number.
~~~
*bing*
Unknown: You told me remember?
Ella: no I don't tbh
Unknown: hahaaha x you aree so funny Ella
Just come down to the lobby we can spend the day together x
Ella: um idk I'm with Phil at the moment so
Unknown: just come down. x
~~~
Now a little frightened from Leo's pushy demand. Ella did not know what to think or do or say. Frozen in place, her reflection staring at her with a piercing gaze.
Ella, still confused about the whole situation, rummaged quickly and stealthily through her suitcase for a jumper. Finding a plain knit dark grey one, she hastily put it on and made her way through the room to the main entrance.
"Phil do you want anything in going down to the lobby for a moment?" She asked.
Phil's eyes glanced away from his game and peeped over the console towards Ella.
"Hm?" He replied. "How come your going down to the lobby?"
Ella's chest tightened and she asked the question to herself; why was she going down to the lobby?
"Oh.." She paused for thought. "I think the hospital called saying I could finally speak to my mum and there's better service down there-"
Ella could not even believe the lie she had told. It felt like vile in her mouth- using her mother as an excuse to do something she could easily do without an excuse. Phil didn't even let her finish her sentence.
"That's fine Ella! Take all the time you need ok?"
She nodded and carried on towards the door, wandering out of the room and towards the lobby.
The closer Ella neared to the lobby the tighter her chest became. Her legs slowly numbed and her heartbeat rapidly increased.
"What's wrong with me?" Ella thought to herself.
Finally, she exited from where she came from and entered the lobby. Yet, something was different.
Earlier, when she arrived, she felt a pleasant warming vibe from the room. It was something about the simple yet sophisticated decor which made her feel easy. However now the room, filled with not one social-hungry resident looking for a chat or some lonesome tourist seeking silence in a lobby or even a friendly face at the main counter. No, there was no one.
The emptiness reminded her of a distant memories where she was confined into solitude without a friend in the world. It reminded The time when her dad left and she felt that nobody truly cared and happiness was a myth.
It reminded her of her first day of school; and the way no one would talk to her until she did some act which gained her friendships, or what she considered to be friendships.
Lost in her thoughts, she was finally brought back by the notification sound of her phone. It sent shivers up her arm and down her spine; something was not right.
~~
Unknown number: you coming? x
Ella: yes I'm here...where are you?
Unknown number: I can't see you maybe you r in the second lobby?
~~
Ella stared at her screen. Mouth slightly open in shock; there surely was no 'second lobby'. Or was there. She began pacing around the empty room, eyes scanning the area around her.
~~
Unknown number: just go through the wooden door on the right and it will lead you to the first lobby.
Ella: I don't think there is a second lobby...
Unknown number: go to front desk and ask I promise there's one :3
~~
Ella rushed towards the front desk and repeatedly pressed the electronic buzzer. After a moments wait, a smartly dressed woman appeared at the desk. She seemed only in her twenties, her dark brown, almost black hair swept across her face.
"Hi I was wondering if there was a second lobby in this hotel?"
The second Ella spoke the woman's eyes lit up. It was as if Ella had triggered something important in her mind.
"Yes there is," she replied, looking behind her. "One moment I shall get my colleague to take you there."
"You don't have to," Ella began.
"I insist."
The woman turned back and into the staff only room. She soon returned following behind a fast walking girl who was about the same height as Ella.
"Follow my colleague and she will take you to the first lobby." She gave a fake smile.
"Thanks."
Ella turned back to follow the second girl but she was already quite far ahead of her. She hadn't even been able to make out her face. In a rush, Ella sprung behind the girl almost catching up to her. Following her through the wooden door and down an empty corridor. As they walked, Ella noticed the girls hair flew behind her in her fast pace, and, it was in fact; cyan blue. The strange feeling of uneasiness entered Ella once more and this time stronger than ever. She began to feel a sense of panic. The girl with with cyan hair took her through another door and down a whirl of rickety staircases.
~~
Ella: Phil I think I'm lost in the hotel go to the front desk and ask them to take you to the first lobby
*bing*
Phil: huh? Ok I'm on my way now^.^
Ella: Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou!
~~
Before Ella could stop herself ; she banged straight into the behind of the girl, face crashing into her cyan locks.
"Owch, sorry."
The girl didn't reply.
"Is this it?" Ella said lost for words.
It didn't look like a lobby at all. The room was large, but not as large as the original lobby. It was damp, and smelt distinctly of rust and filthy tap water. Dusty white paint was chipping off the walls and creating an untidy pile on the rim of the floor.
"Excuse me?" Ella asked hastily, "is this the second lobby?"
Again the girl didn't reply. Ella was terrified for her life. She felt her heart ramming inside her ribcage. This was the end; it had to be.
What horrible event was to happen now?
What was to become of herself?
Suddenly, a distant memory lingered in Ella's mind. Memories of London chase. A chase for a girl with cyan hair. Ella's face paled with intense fear and she gulped, when suddenly, she saw another person emerge from the corner of the room.
"Anna?"
Phils Pov:
Phil tiredly walked out of the hotel room and towards the front desk. Taking his time and going deep into thought, he ignored every impulse to think of Dan, as he knew it would be best to not think about him in a 'more than friends' way. Phil entered the main lounge where Ella said she would be, his face filled with surprise as he thought she would have at least found her way back there.
Walking up to the front desk, he was greeted by a dark haired girl.
"Hi," he spoke briefly, quickly glancing at his phone to see what Ella had said to ask.
"Do you know where I can find the first lobby?"
The girl threw her head back with a short giggle then regained her composure. Phil raised a confused eyebrow.
"I'm sorry sir." She began. "There's only one lobby in this hotel. This is the first lobby."
