Jason's pov

I'm gonna just leave her alone and then after the wedding I'll be gone again and she'll never have to worry about me again. I walk back into the main room where everyone is at but I don't know anyone but our parents and hers and of course her. I walk over to Kasi. "Congratulations on the whole getting married thing." I mumble awkwardly. I sound like an idiot. "Thanks. It's great to see you again. I missed you." She says hugging me. "I uh I missed you too." I say, caught off guard. "And I'm not the only one who missed you." I know exactly who she's talking about. "Talk to her, make this right." "I've tried talking to her. She doesn't want to have anything to do with me!" She just shakes her head and walks away.

"Make sure to be back here next week at 6 for the real thing." My overly organized brother says. "Oh man, does Kasi have her work cut out for her." I say, laughing. A hand is on my shoulder. I turn around and it's the guy I least wanted to see. "Walk you to your car?" He asks. "How about no." I grumble, walking away. As soon as I'm out of eye shot, the boys start talking. "Haven't you hurt her enough!?" "That's why I'm trying to make up for it!" "She's not going to take you back." "If you think I'm doing this is just to get in your sister's pants you're wrong." "Whatever, just leave her alone." I lean against the wall then run to the bathroom sobbing.

I'm not gonna just leave her alone. She's obviously upset. Where I come from, you do someone wrong, you damn sure make it right. I walk by the bathroom where I hear her crying. I sigh and open the door. She's washing her make up off. "I always thought you were too pretty for make up." She doesn't even turn around or even act like she heard me. "Miranda..." This time she looks up at me through the mirror. "I am not ever going to even bother to listen to you!" "Why won't you just hear me out?!" She reaches in her purse and comes out with a bottle of pepper spray. Whoa! "Why do ya have that?!" "Protection! It works to keep perverts and pests away." She growls turning around. "Don't mace me!" "Then don't mess with me and I won't have to!" She lowers her hand. Now's my chance. I walk up as quickly as I can. As she turns back around, I slip my hand into hers, both romantically and strategetically. I kiss her. Her hand shakily releases the mace. The one thing I missed about my life. Who woulda thought we'd meet back up and be kissing in the bathroom of my sister's church where she's getting married in a week. One hand holds hers and the other is around her waist. "No! Stop it! Let go!" She cries, pulling free. "You said you didn't have feelings for me!" "Turns out I was wrong." "I'm not the same girl I was in high school." She whispers closing her eyes and looking at the ground. "No one is the same as they were in high school. You're not a little girl anymore. You're a grown woman. And I'm not a dumb teenager anymore. I'm a grown man. But even if I'm not the same high school baseball player you fell in love with, I hope I can be the dumbass pilot you can refall in love with." "So that is what you've been doing?" I nod.

Miranda's pov

That baseball star that I miss. I remember so vividly how I first knew I was in love.

~flashback~

"Damn, look at that pitcher in them hot jeans." My friend Karen gasps. "Yeah yeah he's.... Oh my Lord..... He's hot!!" I gape, embarassing myself. He makes hand signals and the referee calls a time out. He takes off his glove and ball cap and sprays himself with water. "Damn, it's hot out today." He says. I don't know what came over me that day but I got out of the stands as he was walking into the dug out. I was leaning against the fence trying to look cool. He sits down on the bench while someone else takes over. "Hey, number #9." I call. He looks up. "You talkin' to me?" He asks. "Well you are number 9 aren't you?" I ask, flirtatiously. He smirks and walks over. "Yeah I suppose I am. And what number are you?" "Hoping to be your number one." He chuckles and opens the gate, walking out to where I am. "Wish granted." He says, holding my hand, turning me into a nervous retard.

~flashback over~

"When I left, I got my pilot's license and used it to go to all the places I wouldn't have gone to otherwise." "And you didn't think I wouldn't want to come with you?" I cry. He smiles and holds my hand. "It's not that. I just wanted you to follow your dreams and not follow me. Do what you wanted to do and not just be my shadow." "I wasn't your shadow. I was your girlfriend. And it's definitely was!" I gripe, pulling my hand free. I get out to my car and drive away as fast as I could.
