Jason's pov

~flashback~

Me and Ben were on a 4 month expedition through the Indian Ocean to Antarctica. We had settled in New York to gather supplies and we were shipping out today. He untied the rope. I smashed the bottle against the boat! "And we're off!" He shouts, smiling. Ben grabs my hand and helps me up. "Let's set sail!" He mans the wheel and I go to the front overlooking the water. Wow, look at that view. A big smile lands on my face as I climb the railing. "Ha Ha! Ben we're doin' it man! We're really doing it!" I shout, looking back at him. He gives me a thumbs up. "I'm on top of the world!"

I'm pulled from that fond memory by my princess singing the song I wrote for her. We were in the studio and she was cutting it. "Baby you're all that I want when I'm lyin' here in your arms, I'm findin' it hard to believe we're in heaven, and your lovin' is all that I need and I find it there in your heart. It isn't too hard to see we're in heaven!" I love hearing her sing that song! It's the perfect definition of us. She finishes it and walks out. "How'd I do?" "Great, baby girl as always." I say, smiling. Mike finishes everything up so we head out. "Ya know what? I think we should go surprise my brother and your sister that we're getting married." "That's a great idea." I kiss her gently then drive to their house.

Sean's pov

"Hey honey, Jason and Miranda are here." Kasi gasps, surprising me. "Huh? Usually my sister would call first. What's going on?" Kasi opens the door. "Guys we have some big news!" My sister says, smiling with excitement in her eyes. I smile and walk over, resting a hand on my wife's shoulder. "Jason proposed to me! We're getting married!" She cries. Kasi and I both gasp in shock. "Whoa! Awesome! Congrats big bro!" Kasi says, hugging them both. "Y-Yeah! I'm glad!" I just don't like him too much after he left her and made her cry all those years ago. But Kasi's right. I need to leave the past in the past. I hug my sister and shake Jason's hand.

*later*

"I know you don't like me. I can tell." I turn around caught off guard. Ugh how do I explain this without sounding like a douche. "It's not that I don't like ya man. It's just..... I'm not a very forgiving person... And I can hold a grudge for a long damn time. You leaving set off a chain of events that ruined my sister's early adult life so I'm still pretty pissed about all that." He sighs. "We've talked about all that. It wasn't right for me to leave without telling anyone. I get that now. I was a stupid hothead teenager who craved adrenaline. I've settled down now though." "It's not about that, Jason." I say, annoyedly crossing my arms. "Then what?" I glance in the room my sister and wife are in. "Not with the girls here." We go outside and to my barn. "I'm pretty sure she told you about her husband."

Jason's pov

Uh oh. "Actually I talked to someone else to get that info." He turns around. "But you know what happened?" I sigh and nod. "Then you know why I'm pissed off. It's hard for a girl to come back from that. And it's hard for a brother not to want to kill any guy laying a hand on his sister afterwards. Not that I don't trust you on that.... I mean I'm not stupid. I'm just..... What's the word?" "Protective?" I offer. He smiles. "Yeah. That's right. Protective." "Ya can't blame a guy for wanting to protect his little sister." "I don't blame you.... But just give me another chance. I'm different now." "I know. I'll try." My phone rings. "Hey honey." "Where are you?" "In the barn. Me and Sean were just talkin' about stuff." We go back to the house. "Ya wanna go out to eat with Kasi and Sean?" She asks when we walk inside. "Sure." So we go on a double date then go back home. I can't stop thinking about what her brother said. I don't regret going on my many adventures and getting the crazy out of my system. It was a great move at the time but I do regret not doing something to prevent her from being alone. I couldn't take her with me. She begged to. I wouldn't let her. I didn't want her just following me around. But now maybe that would've been way better.

~flashback~

I wasn't gonna tell her I was planning on leaving but I did tell her I wanted to explore the world. She laid her head in my lap, smiling up at me. "If you do run off, can I come with you?" The dreaded question I didn't know how to answer. I already decided I'd leave and that she wouldn't be coming with me. "Let's see what the future will hold." I say, also smiling. She laughs. "You know we'd look so funny." I hated leaving her.

~flashback over~

I notice she fell asleep. Regrets sure kill me sometimes. The day I left was hard too. Seeing her sleeping so innocently and having to leave her. That was the hardest part about what I planned to do.

~flashback~

I stared down at her sleeping. Unknown to what was about to go down. I kissed her head, put my goodbye note on the pillow by her head and left. I met up with Ben at the end of the drive. "You sure you can do this?" I glance back at the house. "I'm sure. Let's go before my love threatens to keep me rooted here." We drive to the airport. Our first exploration being a trip through the Albanian wilderness. I sat there waiting and wondering. She'd be awake by now. She had to have seen the letter. Was she crying? Was she in shock? What did she do? I sigh and close my eyes, trying to block out my feelings.

~flashback over~

I stare down at my sleeping fiancé, fighting back tears of regret. I'm lucky she took a fiendish person like me back. Even though I don't deserve her in any way.
