Jason's pov
I look out at the view. The cold air chilling me to the bone. "Hey Jason, let's get a move on, this part of the mountain isn't very safe." The snow crunches under my feet as I walk over to him. "I'm a little worried. Leaving her at base camp." "It's better than her coming out here. She's too inexperienced, man." "No not that. I'm worried she'll try to come after-" the ground under our feet starts to shake. We lock eyes. "Move!" He cries, running. I follow suit instantly as the ground we were just standing on gives way. My foot slips in the icy snow and I lose my footing. "Ben!" He turns back around. I try to stand back up but every time I do, the ground quakes. "Jason!" I look back up at him and he tosses me a rope. It cracks in two and now I'm dangling. "Ben! Hurry!" "I'm trying!" I see his feet inching closer unable to gain traction. Crap. He can't pull me up. He'll fall too. "If I survive, I'll find you!" I shout, gripping the ground where I'm hanging. "Jason don't! It's a 2400 foot drop!" Ben yells. "We'll both fall if I don't! It can't hold us both!" We lock eyes again. "I've survived worse man, I'll be okay." I let go of the rope and fall into the snow far below, unharmed. Thank God.
Miranda's pov
My head snaps up when I hear the radio crackling. "Jason here, come in base camp!" He sounds panicked. No one is around but me. I pick it up.
"Uh.... H-Hello? Jason?" "Huh? Darlin' is that you?" "Yeah."
"Where is everyone?"
"I don't know. What's wrong?"
"Ok don't panic but I kinda got separated from Ben... But I'm okay..... I'm just a little lost. I need someone from base camp to hit the tracker on my walkie and pinpoint my location on the map on my phone."
"How? I dont-"
"Find someone who works at base!"
Jason's pov
"No one is here!"
Dammit. I lower the walkie unsure of what to do now! "Jason, you still there?" I look up, the snow is already covering up the entrance where I fell.
"Darlin' you need to stay calm about this. You have to do exactly as I say okay?"
"I'm listening."
I take my flare gun out of my pack.
"I'm gonna shoot my flare gun and you take a picture and send it to me so I know where I am."
"Got it."
I set down my walkie and look up at the snow. "Here goes nothing." I whisper, covering one ear and shooting it. It shoots high in the air and my ear is ringing from the blast. I try to keep my footing. My phone buzzes. Thank goodness girl. I look at the picture. I regret to have to tell her this. I grab the walkie again.
"You're gonna have to climb up to where I am!"
"B-But Jason, you said-"
"I know what I said then just listen to what I'm saying now. You need to get a grappling hook and some rope and bring it up to where I am. That way I can climb out."
"Okay. Stay safe til I get there."
"Baby girl you stay safe too. I love you."
"I love you too."
I drop the walkie in the show. Dammit! Why did I have to be so stupid!? She's inexperienced. She would need a guide and where the hell is everyone at base camp?!
Miranda's pov
I load up on supplies and start the climb. "I'm coming Jason." I whisper. The wind is harsh and my feet keep slipping in the snow but I manage to find Ben. "Oh Lord, Jason's gonna kill me!" I smile. "Jason called me." "Where's- oh never mind. Let's go." I follow Ben up the mountain to Jason.
Jason's pov
I hear Miranda call my name. I shake the snow off my hood. "Down here!" The packed snow at the roof of the hole is kicked in. I smile seeing my gorgeous girl's face. "What do I do?" "Give it to Ben he knows what to do." I call. A few minutes later, the rope drops down. I climb up it, clasping Ben's hand. He pulls me out. "Man I thought I lost you for a second there." He says, smiling. I smile too and hug Miranda. "You proved me wrong darlin'. You have what it takes to climb this mountain. Would you like to climb it with us?" "You really think I can?" I smile. "I know ya can." I look up at the mountain that still towers above us. "Let's go. We still got a lot of miles to go."
*one long grueling climb later*
My face is red from the cold. We all had to wear oxygen tanks because the oxygen is very thin up here. "When we make it up to the top, you're gonna be mind blown by what you see." I tell her. She's exhausted I can tell. We're only a few days away from the summit.
Miranda's pov
I feel unbearably nauseous. "Jason." I gasp, reaching for him but missing and hitting the ground. He spins around. "Darlin' you okay?" I shake my head. My eyes go wide and I rip off the mask and throw up. "Oh jeez!" He cries, landing beside me. "What-" I start. "Altitude sickness. From being up this high." He says, holding my head in his lap. "B-But we're so close." I whimper close top tears. They'd probably freeze on my cheeks because it's so cold. "Baby girl look at me." I force my eyes open. "You're gonna make it to the summit. You've got what it takes. I believe in you." Ben grabs one hand and Jason holds the other. We both have our masks off. Jason kisses me softly then returns the mask to my face. Then he puts his on. "Ok let's do this." He says confidently.
