Miranda's pov
The cold and altitude sickness is really taking it's toll. My legs are shaking and weak. Tears are frozen against my cheeks.
Jason's pov
The wind pulls and tears into me like the claws of a tiger I battled while camped out in the jungle.
~flashback~
I was exploring the jungle in Albania when a tiger crushed my tent. I couldn't kill it. They were endangered. I ran as fast as I could and felt the claws sink into my back. I almost didn't survive but luckily playing dead saved my ass. The tiger got bored and left. Luckily the scratches weren't as deep as I thought and I was able to patch myself up.
~flashback over~
"Jason!" I spin around, the heat of the jungle replaced by the freezing winds of the mountain. Miranda collapsed. I run over to her as she started falling back down the way we came. I skidded on snow and rocks and grabbed her jacket right before she toppled over the edge to an almost 50,000 foot drop onto rock below. My grip on the cliff edge is loose from the snow, numbing my fingers. "Ben! Hurry man!" I glance up and he's tying it to a piece of rock and then around his waist. I'm starting to lose my grip on her hood!! Her dead weight weighing her down and pulling me with her. "Dammit!" I shout, trying to tighten my grip. "Baby, wake up!! You have to wake up!!"
Miranda's pov
The blackness edges away slowly and what I see absolutely terrifies me. "Don't freak out!" Jason gasps, a hand on my hood as I hang over the edge of the cliff. "Jason!" I cry, terrified. "Give me your hand!" I clasp his arm and he holds tight to mine. "Don't let go!" I cry, sobbing. "Never in a million years would I let you go again." He says, trying with all his might to pull me up. I try to dig my feet into the side of the mountain to gain leverage.
Jason's pov
My hand's shaking. My grip loosening. Ben inches closer, the wind making his hair go every which way. "Jason, there is no way you'll be able to pull her back up. It's physically impossible." He shouts over the raging wind. No way am I giving up. "What do you suggest Ben?! I just let go of her?!" He stays quiet, staring at me sadly. He is suggesting that. "Fuck no. I'm not letting go of her!" Luckily the wind is too loud and she can't hear what we're saying. "Jason, I'm slipping!!" She screams. Ben holds a hand out to me. "You have to let go. If you want to survive. There will be other girls." Not for me there won't. "I can't man!" "Give me your damn hand Jason." I glance back down at her. "I can't do that, Ben." We were so close to the summit too. "It's either you let her go or you both die! There's no sense in that!" Tears push at my eyes. He's right. We both will go down if I don't let go of her. I won't let go of her. I can't. I will not let her die. "Ben, go get the clips! I'll use that! I'm not going to let her go!" "You're dooming yourself, Jason." But he goes back to the tree where our bags lay. I try in vain to keep my grip. I can hear her terrified crying from below. "Baby look up at me! Don't look down. I will not let you fall. You have my word. If you go down, I go down too." She shaking. Probably both from fear and cold. "Hurry up Ben! I'm losing my grip!" I look back down at her. "Darlin' just close your eyes. Don't look down!" Ben clips the rope and I grab one end. She grabs the other. I clip it to my belt and grab Ben's hands. "Ok don't let go of that rope, hun!" She's crying again. I finally get to my feet and pull the rope up so she's on solid ground too. She shakily holds onto me. "I told you I wouldn't let you fall." I whisper in her ear. "I wanna go home." She whimpers, her hand clamped on my jacket. "We're almost there and then we'll go home. I promise." We climb the last few miles to the top and I keep a hand on her the whole time.
Miranda's pov
Even after that horrifying experience, I still made it to the top. And Jason wasn't lying. It's the most spectacular view ever. "There it is guys. We did it." Jason says, proudly. I understand now why Jason enjoyed doing all this stuff. This is the most amazing feeling ever. Going back down is so much easier and we get down to base camp. I throw my arms around his neck. "Oh Jason, you saved my life back there." I whimper, trying not to cry but crying anyway. He holds me tight. "Even though he said to let go of me you wouldn't."
Jason's pov
My hands tense up. She heard what Ben said?! "Of course not babe, I would never leave you. I promised that months ago. I will never leave." "Hey Jason?" "Yeah?" "Let's go home." I chuckle and kiss her cold lips. Her hands freezing. "Yes. Let's."
