Jason's pov

We make it back to Nashville. "I understand now." She says, her back to me. Huh? "Understand what darlin'?" I ask, setting my bag down. "Why you left. All those adventures you went on. If they were as amazing as Mt Everest was for me then I understand why you had to do it. It was amazing.... Being up there." I hug her. "I'm... Sorry.... I left you." I whisper, holding her tight. "It's alright I'm not mad anymore." "I shouldn't have left you.... Then what happened.... Wouldn't have happened." "Wait.... How'd you know?" "Kelly told me. I'm sorry I'm so sorry. I should've been here for you." Tears fall down my cheeks. "I'm sorry." "Jason, stop. It's not your fault." "Yes it is. If I didn't leave you wouldn't have been forced to marry that jackass that...." I can't say it though. "That what?" I look at her, her sparkling hazel eyes shimmering with tears too. I hug her tight. "I won't ever let that happen again." "I know, Jay. I love you." She kisses me. My grip on her waist gets tighter.

*later*

*in his dream*

I packed up my tent from my night in the amazon. "We should hike down the left side of the mountain and keep the wind at our backs." Ben says, looking over a map. I nod and roll the sleeping bags up. "You lead the way map boy." I tease. Then I hear someone shout for help! I spin around. "Who-" "Who cares? Just ignore it." He mutters. I can't ignore it. That voice sounds so familiar. "Help me! Please get him off me!" She screams. Who? Where do I know her from? "JASON!" Me and Ben lock eyes. I chase after the screams and I gasp in shock. My high school girlfriend. What's she doing here?! And who's that guy on top of her?!

*he wakes up*

My hands are balled in fists. "Get off her!" I scream. Then realize it was just a nightmare. "Jason? What was that?" She mumbles half asleep. "N-Nothin' hun just a bad dream." I say, hugging her. "Go back to sleep." I lay back down and she lays against my chest. "It's okay, baby I'm okay."

*the next day*

When I wake up, she's singing and playing guitar. "She hides the bruises with the linen and lace, the teacher wonders but she doesn't ask. It's hard to see the pain behind the mask bearin' the burden of a desperate storm, sometimes she wishes she was never born." What's she singing? I stand up and go to the door to listen better. "Through the wind and the rain she stands hard as a stone, in a world that she can't rise above, but her dreams give her wings and she flies to a place where she's loved. Concrete Angel." This song sends chills through me.

Miranda's pov

I try not to cry as I sing this. "Baby girl.... Uh what ya doin'?" I drop the guitar in surprise. "Jason! I.... I didn't know you were awake." I gasp. "I.... Just woke up." He says walking over. My face burns red. "What was that song?" "I... I wrote it.... When..... He was around." "He.... The guy who-" "Yes the guy who abused me. I'm playing it at tomorrow's concert and I'm making sure I've got it right." He stares at me worried and looking like he wants to say something but he stays quiet. "You want me to keep going?" He nods. "A statue stands in a shaded place, an angel girl with an upturned face, a name is written on a polished rock, a broken heart that the world forgot." It's what I knew would've happened if I didn't take action against him.

~flashback~

My body burns from when he raped me a few minutes ago. Tears soak my cheeks. "Hey girl get down here!" He shouts. I shakily and painfully walk downstairs. He grips my waist. "That dumb cowboy missed out on you...... By letting go of uou-" "Shut up! Don't you ever talk about Jason! You have no right!" I scream. He slaps me. "If he were here right now-" He kicks me in the gut. "He's not here! Ya know what, he'll never come back for a worthless trashy girl like you!" No! Quit it! That's what I want to yell but I know it'll just end in me being beat. "Now, take your pants off!" My eyes blaze with rage. If Jason were here, he'd have kicked his ass ten ways to Tuesday. He would never put up with this! "Hey, Baby." I say with fake sweetness. He smiles. "Yes?" "If you see Jason, tell him I said hi!" I scream, stabbing him with my pocket knife. I stab him over and over til he's dead.

~flashback over~

I thought Jason was dead and that's why I said that. I break down crying. "Sweetheart, what's wrong?" He cries, hugging me. The rage from that memory is still fresh. I push him in the chest.

Jason's pov

"You weren't there! I needed you and you weren't there! You left me at the hands of a mad man!" She screams, pointing at me. "Baby girl, what do you mean?" "You left me..... With him." She whimpers, gripping her arms and sobbing. I'm so confused now. "Please.... Baby talk to me!" I gasp, walking over to her. "No! Leave me alone!" She cries, backing up. Why does she look so scared?! "Darlin' what's going on?" "No he'll just hurt me again. I had to kill him. It was the only way out!" She cries, sitting down against the wall. I kneel down in front of her.

Miranda's pov

"Baby girl, what is going on?" He gapes. I look up at him. "Jason, hold me." I whisper, reaching out my arms to him. He pulls me onto his lap and sits down. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." He whispers. He kisses me passionately, the same burning desire fills my body. We're both crying now. "I should've been there for you and I wasn't. I ran away and that happened to you." I curl into his chest and sob loudly. He holds me tight. "It's not gonna ever be like that baby. I'm never gonna leave you again. You'll never be alone." He whispers, kissing my head.
