-This was my first time out in months, and I'm not going to lie it felt good. To be outside I mean. You might be thinking, what did I do that was so bad I was not allowed out for several months? Well to put it simple, I really didn't do anything.
These past several months I wasn't allowed outside of my house because my parents wanted me to "focus on my studies". My parents are weird to say the least, and out of the blue were just like "hey your not going out because you have a low B."
Anyway since I'm, low-and-behold, 17 I have to go to high school where every kid like me has no friends and gets beaten down because we're smarter than most.
I've heard there's this new kid coming in today, and he's a foreign. I was excited to see who he was and what he was all about. Would he have an accent? Would he not even speak English? Would he even talk to me? The possibilities running through my mind were endless.
I had my earbuds in, and I was walking towards the bus stop. I wondered why of all places his parents decided to move to Minnesota. I finally got on the city bus, and was on my way to school.
The bus was moving for a while before it had stopped in front of my school. I grabbed my backpack off the floor and hurried outside. As I made it to the last step I felt someone bump into my back and push me forwards.
"I'm so sorry," they said as I turned around. Taking in the appearance of the man, he looked stupid. He was wearing a t-shirt in the middle of the winter. His blonde hair and blue eyes made him defiantly stand out. I had noticed an accent, but I couldn't tell where from.
"I'm so sorry! I don't know where I'm going," There he went with that accent again! He defiantly was not from around here. "I'm not from around here, and I'm supposed to be starting at a new high school today."
"Where are you trying to go?" I asked. The bus was long gone by now, and it was just us two standing in front of the school.
"Uh I think the school right here," he said pointing to the tanish brown brick building.
"You're new here?"
"Yea," he nodded sheepishly
"Well my names Elle Armstrong," I said. "I'll show you around."
I held out my hand for him to take it, and he did. So we walked hand in hand into the school he would now hopefully call his home.
He gave me a smirk before saying, "thanks."
"Not a problem,"
"The names Luke by the way," he said. "Luke Hemmings."
I led Luke into the school, and there the hallways were filled with sweet, hormones, and teenagers who were shuffling around in the already crowded hallways. I made my way to my locker with him right behind me. The red paint on them made them look straight out of an 80's film like "The Breakfast Club".
"Can I sit with you at lunch?" he asked me as he leaned up against a locker next to mine. I was a little confused because I didn't think he actually would've liked me anyway. I thought for sure he would've been repealed by my geeky nerd looks. The big black glaces and bright, shiny braces. I quickly shut my locker with it all ending with a loud bang echoing down the hallway.
"Yea," I said. "I don't have any friends so I normally eat alone. So don't be alarmed when someone makes a rude comment at lunch."
"Same thing happened to me. I used to sit alone at lunch back from where I lived,"
"Where did you come from anyway you sound like you have an accent?"
"Yea I do. I'm from Sydney, Australia," he said. "Dad got a job up here in the U.S. And we needed to take it."
"Ah so ya moved to the great state of Minnesota," I laughed as I joked with him.
"Yea," he chuckled breathily.
I was currently at my locker, and I grabbed my back up sweatshirt and handed it to him. He was standing next to me with a tee on and he was obviously shivering.
"Trust me this isn't mine it is my brother Mike's,"
He instantly put it on, and he snuggled into it. It fit him well, and to my surprise love it.
"Thank you I was freezing," he said appreciatively. "Why is it so cold here?"
"We aren't close to the equator like Australia is, therefore, it's colder," I said. "You'll get used to it after awhile."
Luke grabbed my hand again as we walked down the hallway to the office to get him his schedule before school actually started. It was comforting to know I finally made a friend, but we all know he's going to leave sooner or later. I'm just going to try and hold onto him for as long as I can.
