The Flash: Lost...

Chapter XX

Joe looks at Wenn.

"That's... not good"

"No." Wenn confirms

"We need to take this really slow, one step at the time or we could drive him over the edge. Right now, I can hold him. But just as I am able to drain his energy, he is able to drain mine. He just doesn't know it. Yet..."

"Okay." Says Joe "Okay, I'm going to trust you on this. But..." He's cut short by the sound of Wenns phone.

She looks at the screen. "It's Barry..."

He nods and Wenn answers the call.

"Barry... Wait calm down... Okay... okay... hold on, I'll be there as soon as I can!"

She ends the call and jumps up. "I have to go!"

She puts on her coat, runs to the door and mumbles, "Superspeed would come in real handy right now"

"A bike..." Joe notes.

"Barry lives on the other side of the City. Jump in the car, I'll drive you there."

Joe drives as fast as he can. As a cop, he's got some advantages when it comes to the speed limit, which is a good thing since he's breaking all of them.

As they near Barry's building Wenn turns to Joe,

"This is bad, his energy level is at least twice as high as normal, you better wait here."

She jumps out of the car and runs in to the building.

"Like hell I am!" Joe says and sprints in to the building after her.

They run up the stairs and the closer they get to Barry's apartment, they hear what sounds like a live wire that has snapped, crackling of electricity.

Without hesitation Joe bashes in the door and they enter the apartment.

What they see stops them dead in their tracks.

Barry is standing in the middle of the living area, back to them. Lightning flashes from him, yellow AND red lightning.

"Barry!" Wenn yells

Barry turns around, his eyes are glowing red. His whole body is ridged, hands balled in to fists.

"Barry's not here right now"

His voice sounds different.

Next to her Joe whispers "Wells..."

Wenn doesn't think twice and runs towards Barry. She puts her hands against his chest and charges him with a positive energy field.

"What are you doing, stop it!" Wells/Barry says, "Stop it! I almost had him!"

Joe sees the red lightning starting to fade.

Wenn feels it's working but also that the negative force is fighting her, so she kicks it up a notch.

"Joe! Get out of here!"

"I'm not..." Joe starts

Wells/Barry starts to scream.

"Get out of here NOW!" Wenn yells

Joe scurries out of the apartment and dives out of the way just in time. A blast follows, shattering the front door and part of the wall.

Then, silence.

Joe sits to catch his breath. Then he hears Barry's voice, "Oh my god..."

Joe gets up and looks in to the apartment. He sees Barry crawl towards Wenn, who's lying lifeless on the floor.

Barry takes her hand in his and caresses her hair.

"Oh god..." Barry whispers again

Joe walks up to them. Barry looks up at him, tears shining in his eyes.

"Joe! What did I do!"
