Barry was wrong. Of course he wouldn't be able to sleep. What made it even worse was that now Wenn had entered his nightmares as well.
Along with Cisco, Caitlin, Iris and Joe, she gets caught in the crossfire after he fails to foil another Meta's evil plan and a huge explosion follows.
Barry shoots up, bathing in sweat.
He falls back on to his pillow, panting and waits for his heart rate to get back normal. Or what is normal for him.
"Great, another person who is in danger of getting killed because of me."
He looks at his alarm clock. 2am. "Fantastic..." He groans
Het gets up to get some water. He gulps it down, then looks at himself in the mirror.
"God I look terrible..."
He puts on some clothes and blasts out of his apartment. A good run always tires him enough to get at least 1 or 2 hours of sleep.
It works again. A fitful sleep, but sleep nonetheless.
When he wakes, he's late. Of course...
He flashes himself ready and speeds towards CCPD. Upon entering the building he runs in to Iris.
"Barry..." She starts
"Look Iris, I'm already late and I..." He wants to brush her off. But he sees the look in her eyes and sighs. She's been through a lot as well. After all, she's the one who lost the love of her life.
"Barry?" He snaps out of his thoughts. He looks at her with a sad look in his eyes and mumbles, "I'm sorry Iris..."
Iris pleads, "I just want to talk, I need to talk to you, Barry. You are still my best friend..."
Barry scrubs his hand over his face and closes his eyes. "You know why I can't be that anymore."
"Please, Barry? Just come over for diner tonight. Dad will be there too. We miss you..."
He opens his eyes too look at her. When he sees the desperate look on her face, he gives in. "Okay, what time?"
Iris smiles and says "The usual, 6pm! See you tonight"
He looks up at the ceiling. "I shouldn't have done that."
Barry proceeds to the lab where Wenn is already working on a few samples.
"Sorry I'm late. I overslept, then I ran in to Iris downstairs."
"No worries!" She reassures him.
"Iris, she's Detective Wests' daughter, right?" Wenn asks him.
"Yes."
"And Detective West is also your dad? How does that work?"
Barry can understand her curiosity with this situation, it does sound a bit weird.
"When I was 11 my mother was murdered. My father was convicted for it and is still in Iron Heights serving his sentence. He didn't do it by the way. But Joe took me in and raised me as his own." Barry explains.
"So Iris is like your sister?"
"Sort of, yeah"
"Oh, okay." Wenn says, feeling that there is more to that but decides not to press. The guy looks worse for wear.
"Bad night again?" She asks.
"That obvious, huh"
"Kinda, yeah"
Barry drops in to his chair and lets his head fall back.
"Why don't you take a nap?" Wenn suggests
"I just got here, Wenn. And I don't think Captain Singh will..." Wenn interjects, " I'll cover for ya. There is not much to do anyway. Seems like the criminals are laying low and the ones that do pop up are taken care off by the Flash."
Barry snorts out a laugh at that statement.
"You... don't... like the Flash?" She asks.
"Not really, no."
"Why not?"
"I have my reasons." He turns his head to give her a pointed look ending the conversation about the Flash.
She gets the hint and sits down at the edge of his desk.
"Okay Mr. Allen, no more Flash talk then. Now, naptime."
He chuckles, "I doubt I can, but I'll try."
She leans forward and puts her hands on his shoulders. Emerald green eyes looking in to his own and god she smells nice...
"Close your eyes." She tells him.
He does so.
"5"
She starts to count.
"4"
He feels her hands slowly trail down the sides of his arms.
"3"
It feels... he can't put his finger on it.
"2"
But he starts to feel quite relaxed.
"1"
He's out like a light when she reaches his hands.
She gives his hands a little squeeze.
"Sweet dreams Barry Allen"
