"Witness. Name and occupation," Prosecutor Moody instructed.
"Prosecutor Anthony Umber. I'm not a detective, but I was still assigned to this case as an investigator due to my... Link... To the victim, so to speak," Prosecutor Umber answered. I guess that he was thinking about his mom... Deaths like that are hard to deal with. Believe me. I know. I gulped down my feelings and focused on the trial at hand once again (which was difficult, I'll have you know).
"Please testify about details on the case," Prosecutor Moody instructed.
Prosecutor Umber nodded. "Very well, then."
WITNESS TESTIMONY: ANTHONY UMBER- DETAILS ON THE CRIME
-The crime was two days ago at Umber Mansion.
-Prosecutor Callie Umber was stabbed to death.
-With her dying breath, she wrote down her killer's last name initials: T.W.
-Said person's finger prints were also found on the murder weapon.
-The defendant is the only one who could have done it.
"That's it," Prosecutor Umber finished.
"Ms. Shield. Your cross-examination, please?" the judge asked.
I nodded. "I'm on it!"
CROSS-EXAMINATION: ANTHONY UMBER- DETAILS ON THE CRIME
-The crime was two days ago at Umber Mansion.
-Prosecutor Callie Umber was stabbed to death.
-With her dying breath, she wrote down get killer's last name initials: T.W.
"OBJECTION!"
I slammed my hands on the defense bench. "Prosecutor Umber! There is a clear contradiction in your statement!"
"Oh? And what might that be?" Prosecutor Umber asked innocently. He didn't seem to have noticed, nor did he seem to care. His atittude sightly shocked me, with who the victim is and all.
"You said the victim wrote down her killer's name. That's incorrect," I continued.
"What do you mean, Ms. Shield?" the judge asked in confusion.
"If the victim really wanted to write down her killer's name, why didn't she just write Tenniswood?!" I shouted.
"She could have thought she didn't have enough time!" Prosecutor Umber roared.
"Then why did she write down periods after each letter?! The autopsy report that I received stated that the victim lived for thirty seconds after her death! That's plenty of time to write down 'Tenniswood!' So why did the victim write 'T.W.' instead?!" I yelled.
"That is quite the conundrum... I wish to call my next witness," Prosecutor Moody cut in.
The judge nodded before I could protest. "Go right ahead."
"I call Estella Cignus to the witness stand!" Prosecutor Moody exclaimed, finger pointing at the stand.
Prosecutor Umber and Estella traded places silently. Estella sighed briefly before turning to face the court.
"Name and occupation," Prosecutor Moody instructed.
"Estella Cignus. I'm a student studying to be a forensic scientist," Estella replied.
"Please testify about what you saw the day of the crime, witness," the judge commanded.
Estella nodded. "Okay then."
WITNESS TESTIMONY: ESTELLA CIGNUS- WHAT I SAW
-My parents and I were invited to the party by the victim.
-We were just having a good time like you do when the host had to leave.
-Soon after, I left the festivities to find a restroom.
-When I came out, there was a robed figure running by, and they were holding a bloody knife!
-Some of it splattered onto the jacket I was wearing.
"That's all," Estella finally said.
"Why didn't you call the police then?!" I demanded.
"I thought it was ketchup! Or some other sauce! The sauces were everywhere!" Estella retorted.
Chrysalis sighed and shook her head from beside me. "I can see why the victim wasn't found until the next day," she said.
"Please begin your cross-examination, Ms. Shield," the judge demanded. I nodded in reply. I think I knew what to do here.
CROSS-EXAMINATION: ESTELLA CIGNUS- WHAT I SAW
-My parents and I were invited to the party by the victim.
-We were just having a good time like you do when the host had to leave.
-Soon after, I left the festivities to find a restroom.
-When I came out, there was a robed figure running by, and they were holding a bloody knife!
"HOLD IT!"
"Does the prosecution believe this person was the defendant?" I asked.
Prosecutor Moody nodded. "Who else would it be?"
"Witness! Please give that previous statement again!" I exclaimed. I think I knew what to do. Estella shot me a confused glance before shrugging and repeating her sentence.
-When I came out, there was a robed figure running by, and they were holding a bloody knife!
"OBJECTION!"
"I pose a question for the court," I began.
"What is it, Ms. Shield?" the judge asked.
"If the defendant did commit the crime, why did she run away with the knife? It already had blood on it and nobody was attacked at the crime scene that night. It must have been the fatal weapon. I believe that the weapon was found on the body, so why would somebody be carrying that knife away from the crime scene?!" I exclaimed.
The people in the gallery buzzed. The judge banged his gavel down, though he didn't yell for order. He must be curious about what will happen next. "You mean to say that...?!"
"The person the witness saw was the culprit, looking to frame the defendant!! They traded out the real murder weapon with a knife that had the defendant's prints on it!" I continued.
"The finger prints on the knife were placed oddly... I suppose that the defense is correct," Prosecutor Moody sighed. "The prints were placed as if she had been holding it to cut something, not to stab."
"The defense wishes for one more day of investigation to look into this matter further!" I shouted. Yuri deflated sightly. I guess she wanted the not guilty verdict sooner rather than later.
Prosecutor Moody nodded. "The prosecution does as well."
The judge looked between the two of us in shock, most likely surprised we had come to an agreement so quickly. He nodded after the brief hesitation. "Very well then. Court will resume tomorrow. Court is adjourned!"
With that said, the judge slammed his gavel down, cue for the investigation to resume.
