16 years have passed since all of them were together.
The rich, business man of a father.
The poor, jobless woman of a mother.
The forger of a child.
The follower of a child.
The scarred teen of a child.
A car crash, a stabbing, and a shooting separated them.
A car crash, a stabbing, and a shooting could also reunite them.
"MOM!!"
"Y... Y...!"

I was doing as I always do upon arriving at work, seeing who else was there, when Niamh walked up behind me. "Ms. Shield, have y-"
Her sudden appearance startled me half to death. I jumped in fright and scaled the couch so I towered over tall Niamh. "You scared me!" I sighed, my breath having gone from normal to heavy in seconds.
"My apologies," Niamh told me, bowing her head slightly. "But have you seen Yuri? Her off day was the day after Chrysalis' trial, and she hasn't shown up to work since."
I thought over the previous two days with a frown. I hopped off of the couch and spoke. "You're right... But where could she be? She would have called us if there was something keeping her from work..."
"I see I'm not the only one worried about Yuri..."
Chrysalis walked into the area from the back room. "She hasn't come in for a while..."
"Maybe she's scared of what happened with you in court," Niamh muttered.
"What was that?" Chrysalis asked.
"Nothing," Niamh replied. "Anyways, what are we supposed to do to find her?"
"Well, we could-" Chrysalis began, cutting herself off. "Hang on. Venus is calling to be channeled."
A few seconds later, after her physical appearance had done its typical drastic change, Chrysalis turned into Venus. Venus turned to Niamh and I, fear etched on her face quite clearly. "You guys have to help me!" she pleaded.
"What is it?!" Niamh exclaimed, panicked by Venus' worried tone.
"Yuri... She was arrested again! And she was shot!" Venus shouted. "You have to go and help her!!"
One glance between Niamh, Venus, and I said all.
We were off to the detention center in seconds.
//December 2, 2029. Detention Center, 9:12 AM//
Visiting hours had just begun when we arrived. Yuri sat on the other side of the glass the same way Niamh had told me she looked last time: her hair less vibrant and her hair bow pointing downwards with dissatisfaction. Yuri didn't even seem to notice us until Niamh spoke.
"Yuri?" Niamh asked, getting the teen's attention.
"Ah!" Yuri gasped, her bow perking up as she jumped slightly. "Niamh! Lily!"
"I'm here too, you know," Venus smiled. "I got them to come and help you as soon as I could get Chrysalis to channel me."
"Venus!!" Yuri exclaimed. She looked ready to embrace her deceased sister, though the glass between them made that dream fade into dust. "Thank you so much!"
"Would it be okay for us to ask you about the crime?" I asked.
Yuri nodded, her previous excitement fading. "W-well... It took place yesterday..."
"Is it true that you were shot?!" I interrupted, suddenly remembering Venus' words.
Yuri nodded and pulled off her black jacket. Underneath was her arm, heavily bandaged. Her face went pale as she whispered, "The police think it was to pull suspicion away from me..."
"But...! You're more of a victim if anything!" Venus yelled. She was practically on fire from her anger. Not that I at all blame her...
"I know... You're never going to believe who the other victim was, Venus..." Yuri whispered. A small tear formed in her eye and streamed down her face as she whispered one word. "Mom."
Venus gasped, her hands flying to cover up her mouth. "N-no...!! She's still alive though, right?!"
Yuri nodded. "Yeah. We were just driving down a road just outside town when a person appeared in the middle of the road. I think it was a girl since they had long, flowing hair. Anyways, we pulled over the car, and as we did, the person pulled out a gun and shot, hitting Mom in the shoulder before doing the same to me. I think I blacked out here, because when I woke up, I was here."
"That's crazy," Niamh muttered.
"I've made up my mind," I cut in. "Yuri, I'm going to defend you."
"Thank you sooooo much!!" Yuri smiled, perking up ever so slightly.
"I'll help out as well," Niamh agreed.
"Then we should go and start investigating," Venus suggested.
"I'll see you guys later, then," Yuri said, waving gently with her good arm. Seeing her like this made me sad, honestly.

The crime scene wasn't something pretty, let me tell you.
A red car was slammed up against a tree, said tree close to toppling it. Glass shards were all over the ground. I was happy that I didn't wear sandals to this investigation. Blood was staining a few glass pieces, supposedly a few that had fallen into the blood pool formed by Yuri and her mom being non-fatally shot.
Niamh stared at the crime scene uneasily. "This is..."
"Woah! What happened here!?"
I turned 90 degrees to see Chrysalis back to normal. Venus must have left at some point while walking here.
"There was a duo of attempted murders," I explained. "Yuri and her mom."
Chrysalis gaped at my words, as if her brain had to wrap around them for a few seconds. "What?!" she finally whispered.
"Oh. You're the lawyers on this case."
The Chief of Detectives walked towards us, anger etched on his face. "I suppose I should have seen this coming."
"Mr. Carson!" Niamh gasped. "What are you doing here?"
"I took this case. What else?" Detective Carson replied.
"And we're here to help, of course."
Detective Umber and Prosecutor Umber approached next. "I feel terrible for the poor girl..." Detective Umber muttered, looking at a glass shard gently.
"There was no other choice, Abilene. You know that. Nobody else was there to arrest," Prosecutor Umber told her.
Conclusion: my finding Prosecutor Umber beautiful obviously meant his appearance and not his soul. Smiley face.

Guess who typed this in homeroom?
I swear to gosh, I should really do better things with my life than type this story. I have two romance chapters written already on paper, I just have to type them. I should really do that. But...
T h i s s t o r y
I think I'll just kind of duck away (because I'm the Digiduck hA) now with my Nevalis nerds.
Chrysalis: *sighs* You really need to post that ship.
I am well aware, Chrys.
Ugh.
Fictional fake lawyers, right?
