"Speaking of midnight discord," Ms. Shield commented to me as we approached the crime scene together. "I don't think you've ever explained that. What is it?"

"Midnight discord..." I whispered. "Where to even start..."

"You make it sound horrible," Ms. Shield frowned.

"It honestly is," I told her. "Midnight discord is a powerful emotion, more often than not, fear, that takes over a person. It influences them so much that it takes over part of their mind."

"Didn't you say something like that happened with Chrysalis the final day of her trial?" Ms. Shield asked.

I nodded. "Yes. I suppose that her fear of who she is took over part of her mind, resulting in what we saw that day: a bipolar, emotionless monster. In Chrysalis, she rapidly switches between her different identities."

"That's insane," Ms. Shield said.

"It's not all that common, however. She's the first I've ever seen, but there's a second to join her little group, I suppose," I continued. "The Chief of Detectives also has midnight discord, but I have no idea what could have caused it."

"So when we first saw him yesterday, we saw his hostile midnight discord side?" Ms. Shield questioned, starting to get a hang of the concept.

"Yes. Today, we finally saw his regular persona. I had gotten so used to hearing midnight discord from him that I didn't even realize that he had another side," I frowned. "Sometimes, midnight discord takes over the actions of who it grew in entirely. This rarely ever happens, however. I was afraid the Chief of Detectives was one of these cases, but I suppose not."

"This is crazy," Ms. Shield commented. "I can't believe I've never heard of this."

"I didn't think telling anybody was necessary since it hadn't come up," I replied. "But now that it has, I don't know what we're supposed to do about it."

"You never learned how to get rid of it at your fancy psychology school?" Ms. Shield asked, concern written all over her face.

"Nobody knows how to, but my guess would be to resolve the fear they have and make it so that there isn't anything to worry about," I told her.

"Good luck doing that with Chrysalis," Ms. Shield snorted. "It would probably be easier to work on somebody who we don't even remotely understand." She crossed her arms with a huff. I felt the same way, though I didn't display quite as openly.

"I know you guys! From today in court!"

I turned on my heel to see a girl with long, brown hair standing behind Ms. Shield and I. Her eyes were dark and looked almost black in their dark shade. She wore a pink tank top with a purple jacket over the top. Jeans and violet tennis shoes accompanied such.

"And you might be...?" I prompted, hoping that this girl would be a valuable witness in our case for Yuri.

"Heather Williams. I don't think I ever caught your names either," the girl, or Ms. Williams, replied.

"Niamh Tenniswood, attorney at law," I introduced.

"And I'm Lily Shield, Niamh here's partner," Ms. Shield told her.

"I just have one question for you guys..." Ms. Williams frowned.

"What is it?" Ms. Shield and I asked in sync. We shot each other small smiles before returning to the task at hand.

"Why are you defending a criminal?" Ms. Williams asked.

"Yuri isn't a criminal!" Ms. Shield exclaimed.

"Ms. Shield is right, Ms. Williams," I said, already beginning to dislike this woman. "Yuri is innocent."

"That's what any criminal would lead their lawyers to believe! All they want is to be free so they can kill more people!" Ms. Williams retorted. "I know that she's a criminal! And there's proof of it!"

"What is this proof?" I asked, hoping it wasn't some sort of forged evidence to hurt the case.

"The RB-7 incident! I think you were the lawyer in it! You should remember such a case!" Ms. Williams shrieked.

"Yuri was found innocent of that case!" I informed her, my thoughts casting back to the first time Yuri was placed on trial. For the murder of Buff Guiy, who just happened to be working with an assassin to kill her... And just after her sister had been murdered, too...

"Who knows?! That assassin group could have just said it was them to get an image and to scare whoever it is this midnight girl is!" Ms. Williams exclaimed, not at all caring about Yuri's not guilty verdict from two years ago.

"Do you have something against her or something?!" Ms. Shield cut in. I forgot she was there due to getting wrapped up in my argument with Ms. Williams.

"O-of course not!" Ms. Williams stammered. I could hear discord behind her voice. So she did have something against Yuri... But what was it? And why? "You are getting on my last nerve! Have a horrible day!" Ms. Williams pivoted in a flash and stormed away, muttering words I won't repeat about Ms. Shield and I.

"What's her deal?" Ms. Shield muttered.

"I wish I knew," I frowned. "But if she knew that Yuri got a not guilty on RB-7, then why say that Yuri still did it?"

"Finding the connection between Yuri and Ms. Williams could make our case and prove a motive for attempted murder on Yuri and her mom," Ms. Shield said. "Maybe we should go check out the evidence room at the police station to see if their families had any links in past cases."

"I have a better idea," I told her. "Looking through police files could take ages. Instead, we should check with the number one source we have on the family Yuri comes from: Venus Rinko."

"Let's head back to the agency and have Chrysalis channel her so we can both talk to Venus at once," Ms. Shield suggested.

"Yes. We could try Cassidy if Venus doesn't know anything useful, too," I continued. "Let's go. Chrysalis won't channel Venus herself."

I turned and looked where Ms. Williams had stomped off to as Ms. Shield and I walked away. What an odd woman...
