Niamh, Lily, and I approached the crime scene. I gulped. Yuri and her mother had been attacked right here just yesterday... I glanced over my shoulder at Carson. Something about him just didn't settle right with me. I frowned as I spoke. "I have some business to take care of. You keep investigating."
"O-okay?" Lily cocked her head in her obvious confusion. "What kind of business?"
I held my index finger to her lips and whispered the international hushing sound. "That much is my little secret," I replied (which is my language for 'people are listening and this is about my secret and I can't have anybody hearing so just deal with it for now I'll tell you later'). I shot her and Niamh a small grin before turning on my heel and jogging away.
"What was all of that about?" Carson asked as I departed. I could just barely make out his words above my panting.
"She just has other things to do. That's all," Niamh said. Technically, that was true. But instead of just doing other things as said, I was going to do a little poking around. It was relevant to this case.
//December 2, 2029. Chief Detective's Office, 11:00 AM//
I arrived at Carson's office a while later. I had changed into my Jo Jade disguise so that I wouldn't arise suspicion at sneaking into the Chief Detective's office.
I blew a small section of my faux green locks away from my face with a small huff. I cautiously entered the room, hoping that nobody was in. I shut the door behind me as well. Maybe I could get in and out without being seen. I just hoped that the loud sound of my heart beating didn't give me away to any passerby...
I looked around the room silently. If I turned on a light, somebody would know that I had crept in here when nobody was watching. So instead, I turned on my phone's flashlight and began moving it around so that I could see a little better.
Once my eyes had adjusted to the sudden flare, I was ready to investigate this odd man.
My eyes fell on a duo of picture frames. I approached the pictures and lifted one from the desk.
In the picture were four people. One had blue, turquoise, and purple hair that was short and reached her shoulders. She looked suspiciously like the victim of Niamh's most recent trial. In her arms was a little girl, only three or so years old. She had brown hair that faded to the blue, then turquoise, and purple in the woman carrying her's hair. Next to them was a man with white hair and red eyes. The Chief Detective, if I had to guess. He had a bleach blonde boy in his arms. His hair also faded to the aforementioned colors of the girls' hair.
Thoughts spiraled in my mind. White haired man with a blue haired woman... It sounded like Carson and Callie Umber... That must mean that the kids they were carrying must have been the Umber twins.
It all made sense: the Chief Detective must be heavily related to them in some way. Whatever way that was, it could be vital in understanding his odd actions.
I set down my phone and tucked the photo away in my jacket's inner pocket. It could be useful evidence in determining the truth behind this odd man's actions.
I turned to the second photo. It had the Chief Detective in it again. But this time, standing alongside him was a woman with brown hair. Braids of pink and black were inside of her flowing locks. The woman held a baby girl with the beginnings of black hair on her head. On Carson's shoulders was a little girl, about three years old, I'd say, with short white hair. She was entertained with a butterfly flitting past. The final girl, one with brown hair with pink here and there, smiled at the camera with a cute, six year old smile.
I picked up the frame and pushed it away as well. These two pictures are the only things I have to determine the strangeness behind the Chief of Detectives.
I began walking around his desk. There was a nameplate on it. I gasped and shone my phone light on it:
'CARSON'
I pouted upon not seeing a last name. You have GOT to be kidding me! The one chance I have of discovering who this man really is, but the universe just says 'nope!'
After sighing in exasperation, I continued my search of the office.
Or at least, I would have if I hadn't heard the footsteps outside.
I forced myself to restrain a small gasp of shock. I dove under a nearby table with a table cloth that was thankfully a blockade between myself and the door. I held my chest as it heaved. It took a considerable amount of effort to make sure that the intruder on my own intrusion didn't hear my heavy breaths.
The door opened to show the Umber twins. I could tell it was them by the outlines displayed through the tablecloth's slight transparency. Well, that, and by the conversation of noisy volume that they were having.
"Are you sure about this, Abilene?" Anthony asked.
"I'm telling you, Ant! I had a dream about all of us with our blue eyes!" Abilene exclaimed. "There's no doubt about it! There's even a photo of him with those three and their mom!"
The image from GC-9 flashed through my mind once again. I gasped as quietly as I could as the picture ran through my brain at light speed.
Luckily, they didn't hear me.
"Ugh! I swear, there was a photo here just yesterday!" Abilene complained. She was looking over the desk I had previously searched alongside her brother.
I took this as the universe's hint at me to split like a banana. I took its advice and jumped out from under the tablecloth before making a mad dash for the door, followed by the agency. I'd leave this case to Lily and Niamh, as my business with Carson had to be top priority.

i FINALLY TYPED AGAIN HALLELUJAH
And apparently I like getting myself sidetracked (or sideTRASHED) by watching Steven Universe on YouTube and googling up fan art of Pearl and Amethyst as a giant woman-
I promise you I don't have a problem-
Plus, for those who are curious, I have been typing ahead on case 5. It's just that great. I have the first 4 chapters done all the way. Quick warning about case 5 though: plot twists everywhere. Every single day, whether it be trial or investigation, includes some sort of enormous plot twist that will make you scream, 'hWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT IS THIS-'
And then I smile because you just spoke Nevada.
Chrysalis: *siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*

Chrysalis: Not helpful.
