I was the prosecutor assigned quite willy nilly to the trial of Ms. Shield. Thanks a lot, Ghastly! You tell me nothing and then force something like this on me!
I walked into the agency alongside Anton while muttering things about how I'd force Ghastly to do his work when this case was over.
I found Tenniswood and Rinko immediately upon entering. They were looking at the blood pool and the murder weapon respectively. The defendant had been taken away by Prosecutor Umber. His twin sister was flipping through a report, more likely than not the autopsy.
"You two must be the defense team," I deduced. I approached the blood pool and readied my watch for a scan. I had to see who the victim was since Ghastly, as I already said, told me nothing more than zero bits of information about this case.
The scan was done within seconds. Anton peered over my shoulder to see the results. I didn't even get a chance before he burst into tears and ran into the back room where Cotoli and his sister live.
I stared at the watch in confusion before my eyes widened. That's...!
"The victim is one Eileen Liyle. Here's the autopsy report." Detective Umber skipped up to me and handed me a paper. However in the world she can be this peppy at a crime scene is something I'll never understand.
Anton returned a few seconds later, a small white teddy bear in hand. Isn't that the one that helped him regain his memory?
Anton proceeded to crawl into the corner and continue to cry. I walked over to him and wrapped a comforting arm around him. "It's okay," I whispered to him. Judging by the fact that his crying only increased in volume, I guess that my words didn't help at all.
Cotoli walked in seconds later and ran over to me. "What happened here?!"
"There was a...murder." It took a surprising amount of effort to force the words out of my throat. "The victim is Eileen Liyle. She was a defense attorney, if I recall correctly."
"This case is making my brain hurt," Rinko groaned, holding her head with her right hand.
"Perhaps I could clear up a few things for you."
Standing in the doorway was a young woman. She had light brown hair that reached her elbows, though it seemed shorter with the slight wave to it. Her eyes were blue and shone from under a glassy surface. The upper half of her face was covered by a black hood to a cloak that wrapped around her body. Underneath was only black. A scarf in the same color was wrapped around her neck. She also had black gloves covering her hands.
"Who are you?" Cotoli asked her interrogatively.
The young woman walked into the room with an uppity flash of whatever was covering her eyes. "My name... Is Razi Lesa. I'm a witness to the crime."
"I never heard anything about a witness," I said, crossing my arms.
"I just got here from the evidence room," Ms. Lesa replied.
"Could you tell us what you saw the day of the crime?" Tenniswood questioned her.
"Sure..." Ms. Lesa began, her eyes dancing away distantly. "But I will warn you now..."
"Warn us? Of what?" Rinko asked.
"...I'm currently suffering from amnesia," Ms. Lesa finished.
"A-amnesia?!" I stammered. "What happened?!"
"I don't remember anything from before today... I'm not even sure what my real name is..." Ms. Lesa whispered. "Razi Lesa is just a placeholder until I can remember..."
"That's horrible!" Rinko exclaimed.
"All I know is that I saw the crime... But the defendant didn't do it!" Ms. Lesa insisted. "I saw somebody else do it!"
"And who might this person be?" I challenged.
"I... I don't remember... But they wore all black and I saw... I saw white flash around their face... And they held a piece of blue glass..." Ms. Lesa answered. I could just tell that cross-examining her tomorrow would be a pain with all the pauses she's been taking.
"A piece of blue glass?" I repeated. "That's an... Odd thing to carry to a crime scene."
Ms. Lesa shivered slightly. "It's like I can feel it piercing my skin just thinking of it... It's freaky..."
"Thanks for speaking with us, Ms. Lesa," Tenniswood said next. "I assume we'll be seeing you at the trial tomorrow?"
"I haven't found any other witnesses, and the police haven't either, so that's safe to say," I told her.
"I'm going to go now... I have other business to take care of..." Ms. Lesa continued. "I'll... See you all at the trial tomorrow..."
"We should go and see Lily," Rinko suggested.
"I haven't seen her yet, either. I might as well come along." I turned to Anton. "It's time to go."
Anton nodded shakily and stood, wiping his eyes with the white teddy bear. He still hadn't let the plush go since I had done the scan on the victim. "O-okay."
"I'll stay here. I have other things to do," Cotoli announced. He walked into the back room.
"Let's get going then. There's no time to lose!" Rinko exclaimed.
//December 9. 2029. Detention Center, 12:05 PM//
I walked into the detention center with Tenniswood, Rinko, and Anton. Sure enough, Ms. Shield was right there, sitting on the other side of the glass. She was toying with her locket, lost in thought.
"Lily?" Rinko asked, breaking the silence that hung over the room like a layer of thin fog.
Ms. Shield looked up from her thumb twiddling with a small gasp. "Niamh! Yuri!"
"Could we ask you about what happened?" Tenniswood questioned.
"I just went into work as usual, like I do everyday. Nobody was there and the door was unlocked for some reason, so I decided to wait for somebody to show up. I was about to take a seat on the couch when I saw a blood pool in the corner of the room!" Ms. Shield exclaimed, her eyes tearing up. "I think my illness kicked in because I started coughing, got cold, and then passed out. When I woke up, I was being arrested for the murder of somebody I've never even met."
"I wonder about the case... Like why the body was moved..." Tenniswood whispered.
I had a gut feeling that said that things in this case weren't as cut and dry as hoped...
