Chief of Detectives Rinko was laughing insanely at the witness stand. I stared in shock, blinking madly, hoping that this was some sort of bad dream. I would wake up back at the detention center like I had never met an insane maniac who tried to kill seven times. Like I had never discovered said insane maniac was the father of Yuri. I could pinch myself and it would all be over, like it had never happened in the first place. I raised my fingers to my cheek and pinched, but it was all for naught: I was still here, still watching Yuri's father cackle with a demonic smirk.
"I suppose that I should go ahead and tell you all now," Detective Chief Rinko announced around his laughter. "It's true. I am the other side of 'Carson Rinko.' It's also true that I tried to kill the victim. But that's not my only crime."
"What...?!" Prosecutor Bloom muttered. "Witness! Explain yourself!"
"I was also the one who attacked you. I exchanged the knife in Tenniswood's trial to frame her, assaulted Morix, Amaya, and Carmen. Plus, I attacked Tenniswood and Starr during the fire, which I started. I would have gotten away with killing you all if I didn't end up restrained by my unknowing other side," 'Detective Chief Rinko' continued. He turned to Chrysalis and ran a hand through his marshmallow colored hair (marshmallows seem too nice for this guy, though...) Take two: He turned to Chrysalis and ran a hand through his paper white hair. "Tag team for the explanation of this crime?"
Chrysalis rolled her eyes. "I despise you, Midnight, but there isn't any other way to reveal the truth behind all this otherwise." She sighed while glaring at Chief Detective Rinko's shoes in distaste. "Where should we start?" She was practically spitting the words out of her mouth like they were some sort of cafeteria food. Detective Stanhope says that stuff kills people all the time.
"You were the victim. Tell them what happened before I came in and messed up that already screwed with head of yours," Chief Detective Rinko instructed.
"Fine." Chrysalis crossed her arms bitterly before beginning. "I'm just doing what you'd do for school: homework. Suddenly, the door flies open and he enters." She pointed at Detective Chief Rinko with a snarl.
"It felt wonderful to kill the person who almost got my host's daughter a guilty verdict," he smirked.
"Explain yourself, witness!" the judge demanded.
"I attacked all those people because they were involved in RB-7 or had connections to somebody who played a large role. My victim over there-"
"Shut up and get on with the explanation," Prosecutor Bloom cut in, most likely to get him from spilling all about who the Oracle of the Law was to the court, who would no doubt share it with the media. If that happened, everything would be on fire because murderers, aspiring or already owning that title, were looking for Chrysalis... Thank gosh for Prosecutor Bloom!
"Anyways, she passed out. I was sure she was dead. I slit her wrist with this before taking my leave." Detective Chief Rinko pulled a blue glass shard up and held it in front of his left eye. "Her blood was everywhere... Even if she is sort of me due to midnight discord and such, it was thrilling... Just thinking about it makes my stomach flutter."
"Say that again and I'll be in the killer spot," I heard Nevada scowl from the gallery. Her fists were clenched in her anger.
"Once he had left, I woke up. I used the dummy we keep in the closet of the agency to make a fake body. I knew that the culprit would come for me again if he knew I was still alive... Maybe even those around me... So I falsified the corpse of my alternate persona, as well as the person he assaulted. I moved it to the evidence room so people where I work wouldn't get suspected..." Chrysalis looked at me guiltily before continuing. "Though I forgot to lock the door... So Lily stumbled upon the blood covered floor and passed out."
"So that's why she was found unconscious at the crime scene... But why was the door locked when Yuri and I found the scene?" Niamh frowned.
"I came back and locked the door, since I thought nobody was inside due to it being closed. After that, I donned my disguise and made up my mind to testify upon hearing of Lily's arrest," Chrysalis finished. "Your turn."
Detective Chief Rinko nodded. "I had finally made up my mind to kill the girl who could get my daughter so easily hurt. I grabbed a statue and my glass and left. I walked into the agency and did the deed. I grabbed her neck and squeezed so her skin wasn't even visible... If I had known strangulation felt so good before, I would have started sooner. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Speaking of which, I was sure hers had stopped before leaving. I was locked away after that. I set the courthouse on fire a few days ago and dose to and came close to killing the defense team leader and the witness. My other side took over to save his daughter."
"You were the one who helped me...?" Yuri muttered. She hadn't been speaking this entire time, so I was shocked to hear her soft voice once again. I suppose seeing her father for the first time in fifteen years shocked her into silence. I don't blame her at all.
"Yeah, and if I recall correctly, that blue haired lawyer helped my first victim," Detective Chief Rinko continued.
"I seem to remember my brother helping me..." Chrysalis whirled around to face Detective Chief Rinko fiercely. "You tried to attack him again! That's why I got hurt in the first place!"
"It was foolish, but I left it that way anyways. It satisfied me to see the one my host hated so much on the ground and nearly dead," Detective Chief Rinko smirked.
I can't be the only one who's overly eager to get Yuri's real father back...
