Stuck in the Middle

Waking up

(*Tyler's POV*)

I let my breath out as Mariah opened her eyes and smiled at me. I felt tears coming on.

I came so close to losing her...

I shook my head. She's here and she opened her eyes, that's all that matters.

She slowly placed her hand on her head, feeling the bandage.

"Mom, my head hurts." She said, a smiling creeping across her face.

We all bursted out laughing. It was so loud that a nurse came in to see what was happening.

She looked toward Mariah and was surprised to see her awake.

"Oh Mariah! Welcome back" The nurse said smiling.

"The doctor will be right with you to fill you in." She finished, exiting out of the room.

An awkward silence fell, but it broke when the doctor came in to check on Riah.

"Good Morning Ms. Mariah" He said as he looked at his board.

She smiled at him and my heart skipped a beat.

I haven't seen her smile so genuinely in a long time.

"Welcome back." He told her.

"It's good to be back." She whispered.

He nodded at her and sat slightly on the bed.

"Where should we start?" He asked her.

"How long was I asleep?" She asked him.

"A week." Caleb answered, his arms crossed over his chest.

Mariah turned towards him and I could see the look of sincerity that she gave him.

I looked away, jealousy creeping through my veins.

"What's my condition?" She asked.

She winced, i guess the medication is wearing off.

"You had to get stitches on your head. As you can see, you broke your arm and your leg." He said, pointing at each part of her broken body.

"You also landed on your hip bone so we had to fix that too. You lost a lot of blood during those surgeries Mariah, and your lucky that your friend Tyler here volunteered to give blood for you." He finished.

Riah looked at me and mouthed the words "Thank You." She looked as if she was on the verge of tears.

I smiled and nodded at her.

"How long more does she have to stay in here?" It was Riah's mom.

"Well, we'll examine her and see if her vitals are all good, then we can start her on rehab." The doctor said as he looked at his board again.

"Is it ok if i get more pain killers?" Riah asked, now she was REALLY feeling the pain.

"I will get a nurse right on that." He said smiling.

The doctor left the room and we were all alone again.

"Hey mom, Tyler. Is it ok if I talk to Caleb alone?" She asked, looking at Caleb.

I walked out of the door, watching from the window.

I saw Caleb hug Mariah and kiss her on the lips. She smiled slightly.

I sat down and began to text Jade to tell her that Mariah was ok...

Mariah wanted to talk to me alone and I felt my heart skip a beat, wondering what she wanted to talk to me about.
