Jason's Flashback
Jason watched as Kyle kissed Piper and couldn't wrap his mind around that. Piper looked at him with shock written all over her face.
They are DATING?
Kyle and Trish? I have no idea. I know they went to the movies together about two weeks ago, but I have no idea if they're serious. And I don't care either.
Piper was talking now, and Jason could say she was nervous. Piper was always so confident, facing monsters three times bigger than her. Or talking to some god or goddess, convincing them to do what she wanted them to. And know she was stuttering, trying to come up with something to tell Kyle.
"Oh, okay then. Want to reschedule to Saturday?"
"Well..."
Jason snapped out of his trance and went to save her.
Hero complex?
Shut up.
"Kyle, I was wanting to talk to you"
Piper sighed in relief and he was thinking of a way to make Kyle get lost so he could talk to Piper alone, when he heard the other guys making fun of someone.
Great, him. Again.
Who?
Felix, probably. He tried out for the team and failed. Five times in a row.
Why?
Because he is fat. And clumsy. And too easy to scare, he always run like a crazy when the team go in his direction.
If he failed so many times, why he keeps trying?
He must be a masochist. Usually, I'd admire someone being so determined, but this is only making his life miserable. The guys won't let it slide. They'll pick on him, everytime they see him.
And you allow it?
I'm their captain, not their mother. I won't scold them or say to 'play nice with the other kids.'.
You're not only their captain, you're their leader. And should be their role model too.
I'm a good role model. I may not stop them, but I don't pick on Felix. Football is not for everyone, and he's not being incovenient or something, he is just trying to fit in. Unfortunally, he's trying always in the same group. You can't open a door with the wrong key, doesn't matter how many times you try it. He needs to learn that.
And mocking him is the way to do it?
The guys don't do much when I'm around, but I can't keep an eye on every single one of them every single time of day. Maybe the coach could stop them, but he doesn't bother to try. You met him, you think he would help someone to face their own problems? Like he would say, it's their OWN problems, they might as well deal with them.
But that's bullying!
Society needs to stop to try eradicate bullying and start teaching how to defend themselves. That's how life works. Nobody said it was easy.
Jason thought about CHB, where the greeks fought together, but it was still each man for himself. And then he thought about the legion, how they were stronger together, that it didn't mattered if you're not a good swordsman, because you're in a formation that protects you. That if you got hurt, you'd retreat and someone else would take your place, without risking the strengh and power of the legion.
Maybe so. But we live in society, so we might as well make life easier by having always a friend to stand up for you, fighting by your side.
He was going to step up and stop the guys when one of them moved and Jason saw the Felix guy for the first time. He remembered when they went to CJ get Percy and the two others from the prophecy. He remembered seeing the asian guy, clumsy and a little over-weight, who then turned into an amazing dragon. And he remembered how was that guy now, how he became the more muscular one of the boys from the prophecy. But it was no mistake, that guy over there, with his head down and trying to look brave was Frank, but not the strong, tall and praetor one, but the previous one, the misfit. He looked to Piper to see if she saw that too. She was looking at Jason angry and determined, but when she saw his face, it morphed to confusion and she tried to look at Frank. He noticed when she recognized him, the surprise clear on her face when she looked back at Jason: "Frank"
Flashback over, back to the present
I hate math.
I hate school.
And just for you to know, you need to call a meeting with the team before practice.
Why?
I have a new play I want to try. And you're captain for now because I'm captain.
Fine.
Do you have a good command voice?
What?
Like a general, or something.
I was praetor. Don't worry, if I could make a bunch of demigods with ADHD to follow me, your team will be easy.

Hey, don't let me forget about taking my car to a check-up this Saturday.
Why?
It was doing a sound that I don't like, I need to make sure it's nothing serious.
Okay, but... I don't know how to drive.
What?? How?
I'm a demigod! At sixteen I wasn't worrying about passing driver's test, I was in Rome, trying not to lose my sanity, with a friend destined to go on a solo mission, which everyone that tried, failed. I was worrying about a friend's brother dying without air if he didn't find him before it was too late. And I had just a few weeks until the possible end of the world!!
So, you don't know how to drive?
Jason took a deep breath and tried to relax.
No, I don't. Percy does, he was teaching me, but two demigods, sons of the Big Three, have the tendency to attract monsters. A LOT of them. So our lessons weren't so often.
So what do we do? We ask Alfred? He'll find it strange, I never ask anyone to drive for me, I love to drive.
We could ask Percy, like I said, he knows how to drive, his step father taught him.
Peter? You want me to spend time with Johnson!? And allow him to drive MY car? Sure, because that makes perfect sense!!
Glad we agree, I'm texting him.
I wasn't serious, and you know it!!!
